I am a huge fan of One Piece, Trinity Blood, Bleach, Samurai Champloo, Death Note...and many other anime shows. Are there any other anime fans out there?

I am! I like Yinuyasha and some other popular Japanese amine coming up recent years. They just feed the immortal enthusiasm of the childlike side of me!

Do you know if the Cartoon Network finally aired the final epsiodes of the series? I've been told several times that they aired the conclusion of the series in Japan, but I haven't seen the ending aired here.

Kind of reminds me of what's going on with One Piece. Funimation took over from Fox4Kids, and started to release the uncut version of the series [4Kids edited the shows--both video and dialog], but then it just disappeard from CN. I have no idea if they are going to finally air more episodes, or if it's on permanent hiatus...or what the heck is going on? [Only a small part of the series was released in the U.S., so far. In Japan they are already into over 300 episodes...] I wish they would show more animes.

You guys probly don't feel the way I do, but I feel corporate america has destroyed the anime sub culture by buy up all the license to air on tv here for quick cash and the movie industry. There taking Japanese movies and remaking them and directing them to american audiance as american originals. and now remaking japanese game show and bring them over here. I feel this all started back in the mid 90's when the anime culture had a big boom. Now corporate america is just milking what they can destory what was sacred in the process. sorry read sanji's rant and my surprressed otaku side came to surf.

Personally, I liked Ringu more than the Ring...If I found a dead body like that in the Ring, you can bet your butt that the authorities would be all over that case. (However, I'll usually take a re-make of a Japanese horror film before I'll watch a slasher film...although, there are a few exceptions).

And, don't even get me started on the difference between the Go Rangers and Battle Fever J vs. the Power Rangers.

The sad thing at the base of all of this, though...is that I think Hollywood is beginning to really hit rock bottom when it comes to 'the new ideas' department. It seems MOST of the films coming out now are REMAKES. If it's not a remake of an old Hollywood film, then it's a remake of another country's film...like the Eye, the Grudge, the Lake House, Shutter, etc.

But I still have hope...

By the way, what did you think of this past year's animation contestants for the Oscar? (Ratatouille, Persepolis, and Surf's Up? "What the...?!?") I kept thinking, I know that there are animes out there that should have been on that list. And, ONLY THREE NOMINEES?!? However, I also had to remember that in order to be nominated a film has to run a certain amount of time in an L.A. theater--at least I THINK that rule is still on there, somewhere...

I know some people in the biz who will want to kill me for saying this, but...if it weren't for the 'free fan subs' on line, I wouldn't have become such rabid fan of One Piece...and I LOVE listening to the original Japanese soundtracks of the shows--the interaction is more dynamic because that's the ORIGINAL recording, and the seiyuus are being recorded in the same room, at the same time. (When they do the English dubs, they are trying to match their dubs to the 'mouth flap' movements...and despite everything, it falls short). Not to mention the English dialogue tends to be so 'dumbed-down' (for the kids), that it just takes a lot of the fun out of watching the show.

I love that the 'fan subs' try to provide accurate translations. (No, I don't speak Japanese...yet. However, when I ran some of the dialogue by someone who is fluent, he confirmed that the 'fan subs' translations were accurate).

Also, I just want to put some people's minds at ease...I DO BUY THE DVDs of the series, if I like the series. (Currently, I have THREE different copies of the first thirteen episodes of One Piece...the Taiwan version, the 4Kids version, and the Funimation version...) I actually have a decent collection of anime (rurouni kenshin, gundam wing, etc). Unfortunately I haven't been able to watch it in recent years ... just been too busy with life! If it weren't for Cartoon Network, I wouldn't see any!

I haven't seen Rurouni Kenshin or Gundam Wing...yet. However, I have friends who have...and RK looks really good. (I do want to see it, when I have time). As for GW, it's a bit lower on my 'to see' list. (I tend to be less into the Mecha animes, but I used to love the Mecha live actions).

But, YES!!! Hooray for Cartoon Network for bringing those anime shows to their network! If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have gotten hooked on Samurai Champloo, One Piece, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach and all those other stellar anime shows! I like Rurouni Kenshi for the historical aspect, where as I like Gundam Wing for the political points of view interwoven into the plot line. I'm a history/poli sci geek so thats why I like them.

Of course I like other stuff like I, My, Me Strawberry Eggs just because its hilarious. Gotta have humor!
