I would highly recommend a cruise on The Disney Cruise Line. I took my sons onmy first post-divorce vacation and we had such a wonderful time.

They are very family friendly ships and most kids go off and do their own thing since they have activities for all age groups. This lets the parent do as little or as much as they want. There are areas of the ship that are nice and quiet and adults only, so it is possible to enjoy some tranquility with all the kids that are on board.

We always enjoyed the trip excursions together and dinners together each night. I always felt we were safe and had no worries, even as a singlemom traveling with two young teenagers.

I have trekked off with my kids on vacation alone for the last three years. We went to Colorado to a dude ranch (big hit with my boys), went to Washington, DC and Virginia Beach, and have done Disneyworld, too. The hardest thing is being the only adult, but I feel like I have really had a chance to get to know my kids better. DC was fun and you can arrange smaller tours through your senator or representative.

I have a three year old but we usually piggy back with other famlies and there vacations, so that we can all help each other out. If they want to go out I can watch their kids, if I need abreak they have mine. This past year we went to the beach had a lot of fun. I have no money ince I am also going to school so grandparent houses seem to be a big hit with us as well lol!

I have nightmares about my son falling through the railings on the ship into the ocean. Honestly. Yes, I know I have issues. OK, so do they have railings on disney cruise lines that children can fall through? Lol. It's a serious question. Stop laughing.

Personally I think cruises are a little boring. I agree they're fun for the kids but not much fun for a single adult unless you like sitting by the pool all dayand you can do that at home.(All IMHO).

All inclusive places in the Caribbean offer more activities for everyone and many are quite affordable. Jamaica in particular. I've been there six times (3 with the kids) and would go again - although my kids are now up and on their own. They're safe, a lot of fun and surprisingly affordable.

Disney cruises....no, not comparable money wise to other cruises, they are more expensive. But having sailed on two other lines I would have to say you get what you pay for. If you have children, Disney is the way to go!

Children falling overboard. I don't think there has ever been a documented case of a child "falling" overboard. Drunk adults....yes. Adults jumping in.....yes. You can't understand till you have been on a ship, but it is virtually impossible to just "fall" over. It just doesn't happen like that.

Still, I understand your concerns. I can assure you it is very safe. Goto the website and you should be able to see pics of the ships. Should give you an idea of why you can't just fall overboard.
