It seems most of the guys who get referred to me are 'homebodies'. They garden, cook, take care of their houses, play golf but no one seems to camp. And haven't found one soul who owns a horse! I'm looking for a guy who likes to camp, hike, fish, travel -- in the US -- and at least likes horses. I've got more than one! But no replies. I'm beginning to feel like I'm odd ball out.......90% of my time is spent outdoors. With or without a horse!

Hi Campfires. I guess I am in the same boat - or saddle - as you. I love my horse, love to ride, and don't get into the sports thing. I have dated a couple of guys that think it's "really cool" and like the fact I have my own "thing" but I would like to share that with somebody, too. I have also been sent matches of men who have the "horse-thing" listed, and never get any replies, either. So I just end up closing them. And the men that I do meet, outside of here, and are into horses as much as I am....married. So, no, your not the odd ball out, there are more women in the same situation, and have the exact same feelings...I think all of our "John Wayne's" are gone...and if they are out there, they are probably the Marshall Tucker's of the bunch, and just want to visit Miss Kitty, and not settle down.

I love camping but do not ride anymore. I did however learn at the spanish Riding school of Vienna. it was excellent as I was one of three guys in a class of 30 women. This was many many many mnay mnay years ago.

I love the outdoors

I understand your issues as well. I also own several horses and it is a struggle to find a man who not only "likes" horses but also rides. Though not to argue with LesTheHandyman, I have been to the Vienna riding school in Austria and they have yet to admit women into their program as it is not tradition or form within the school.

Try having some Standardbred race horses! I have given up on finding a guy who can handle & or is interested in that, unless of course they think they can make some $ on them.

I KNOW I wrote a comment on this topic a week or so ago! I have had horses all my life and up until a few years ago, spent a week each September camping and trail riding out in Garrett County, Maryland with a very diverse group of people who enjoyed the same thing.

My suggestion in that post (which for some reason, did NOT appear here) was to try equestriansingles.com. A good friend of mine(and an avid horseman) men the woman of his dreams on there and they got married a week or so ago.

I hope this post gets posted!

I just returned from my 3rd camping trip of the season. You don't have to be into horses to get stuck in this rutt. I love fly fishing and most of the really nice wild brook trout waters are hike-in locations. Do I ever get a match that loves trout fishing and camping? NO...just duffer after duffer with a tennis play thrown in for variety. So, I do all my fishing with the local Trout Unlimited chapter and I'm always the only girl, all the men are married and half of them are old enough to be my father.

Along with fly fishing, I camp when I attend various archery tournaments. While I'm not the only girl there, the other females are part of a couple and the unaccompanied men are married. Oh well, I just take my dog along for company.

It would be nice to know where the active, outdoorsy single men are hiding, though.

Maybe you ought to fit that into your profile somehow...about loving fishing and camping. I know when I was still accepting matches, I automatically closed out any respondent who mentioned Golf, NASCAR or Harley Davidson motorcycles (too much like the ex). I had already spent YEARS as a golf widow and didn't want to go down that road again.

Good luck to ya. I would think there are plenty of outdoorsy men over there in Virginia!

I hear what you are all saying. Try getting back into being single after 35 years of marriage and having horses and a small farm!!! While my late husband was a physician, he never golfed. The girls and I have always had horses and ridden. Now trying to find someone my age who is even remotely interested in having horses around is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Is being "even remotely interested in having horses around" an absolute MUST HAVE or prerequisite for you? When I found myself suddenly single again, I didn't care if a guy liked horses, had horses, rode horses or knew the front from the back of a horse. But I DID know that I wasn't going to give them up. And it all worked out just fine.

My horses (and cats) are part of the package. Love me, love my critters!
