I have a few trips scheduled to Missouri, but my 'tour guide' might not be available. Does anyone have any good recommendations for some quick weekend excursions? I'm flying into St. Louis, but I will have a rental car and will be able to take a couple of road trips.

We need just a little bit more information on YOU. I can tell you what I would do if I went to St. Louis (trip to Six Flags, the Arch, and ALL 5 versions of Rt. 66 through the city!), but it would be easier for us if you could tell us things you've done or visited on other trips in the past.

I wanted to do some outdoor activities, a few cultural excursions, perhaps a road trip to some of the mountains and maybe some river trips. I'd like to see some St. Louis sites in addition to going to other areas of Missouri and perhaps neighboring states if there is time for a road trip.

Go and visit the Budweiser team in St. Louis. They also give you free beer! (or at least they used to) lol

Missouri in winter. Well, the roads are going to be icy...thick ice after a storm. If your weekend does not involve ice, then drive SW. You will find Caves and the Bass Pro Shops (BPS) Mother Ship in Springfield, along with 2 million churches. Keep heading S and there are some neat antiques malls and then, of course, Branson--which is overrated but interesting enough. 'Steal your dollar city' is a fun country theme park in good weather. Somewhere around there is a really cool log cabin lodge, also related to BPS: You can eat and fish. If you keep going S and hit ARK there are a few well known tourist spots to see. There are lots of B&B's on the way. But if a storm is expected, stay home...

That reminds me... About 110 miles down I-44 in Mansfield is Laura Ingall Wilder's house/museum. I've always wanted to visit it, and had NO clue it was only a few miles off of Rt. 66. I drove right by it last year!
