I am a total Tour de France afficionado and have decided to go next year...Lance Armstrong is going to show up with a new team and as a supporter of the Livestrong Foundation this really toots my horn.

Additionally I want to spend a month afterward traveling backpack style, or as close to it as I can, painting and touristing and soaking up the sights.

My best friends brother has a small condo in the south of France I can have for a couple of weeks and I plan on renting a scooter to get around on....I want to go as inexpensively as possible during the touristing part because the tour tour will be tres expensive for me.

Helpful hints, favorite places and friends of friends where I might couch surf are welcome.

Well, I do know the south of France pretty well.
One of my dreams is to go and bike the area from village to village, not too hard, probably 20 miles a day and then take two days to enjoy whatever village I come to.

I have not exactly done the Tour de France but I know France and love it there.

I may be able to spend a year there starting this February. Waiting for some news mid January that will determine whether I can do this.
Would love to find a travel mate of either sex to go with.
