I'm planning a solo trip to France around Christmas. Any suggestions as to how to spend Christmas day as a single person in Paris?

I spent last Christmas alone in London and New Years in Paris. I was fortunate that the hostel that I stayed in offered a Christmas dinner and I was able to hang out with some people I had met in the couple of previous days. I like hostels because they are a) cheap, and b) allow you to meet lots of people as you travel alone.

I was able to go to Westminster Abbey for midnight mass the night of Christmas eve. I would absolutely recommend taking in a service on either Christmas eve or Christmas. It makes you feel like you're part of a community, the music is beautiful, and the atmosphere is wonderful. There is an American church in Paris that is supposed to be great, but if it were me, I would probably try to hit one of the big ones... Notre Dame, Sacre Cour, etc.

Of course, most sites will be closed, so you may want to visit parks, etc. One potential problem is that public transit may be closed (the subway/underground) in London was shut down for the day). Depending on the locations of your lodgings, that could really limit things. Make sure that you are aware of what days and hours all of the places you want to see. There was one cathedral that I wanted to see, but every time I went, I was just a little too late.

BTW... one of my favorite things that I did in Paris was visiting the Palace in Versailles, about 30 mins outside of Paris. It was beautiful. It can get pretty chilly, though, esp in long lines, so make sure you plan for the cold.

Have a fantastic trip!!

HOORAY FOR SOLO TRAVEL!!!! Its the best...but can occasionally be a bit lonely...especially on holidays.

Its true that Hostels usually have some Christmas thing going. But the Champs Elysees is magical at Christmastime....people watching there is always a blast.

I would bet though...that as a solo female, if you wanted, you could have plenty of company while you were there. Whether its other solo travelers you have met...or just other travlers...or perhaps a charming Frenchman I think you should just go with the flow and I'll bet you find something great to do.

Good luck and have SOOOOOO much fun!!!!
