I'll be on Maui in July (7/3 - 7/8) - western side (kaanapali). Any advice on places to eat or visit?

Thanks!

kli, you should contact BSchorr, he's in Hawaii - I think he's in Honolulu but he'll likely have more info than most to offer you. Hope you have fun anyway!

Lahaina offers a lot of different restauarants for eating. You have your standard chain restaurants mixed in with local eateries. There is a restaurant right on the beach just a ways down from the Sheraton. I can't remember the name right now, but it's 2 stories with the bar on the beach and the restaurant up above. It's a great open air place to eat and watch sunsets.

I would suggest snorkeling in front of the Sheraton. They have a nice cliff and reef there. I've seen turtles and rays there.

In Lahaina a couple of fun restaurants are Cheeseburgers in Paradise and Bubba Gump. Also we enjoyed the Old Lahaina Luau in Lahaina.

You are going to love Maui. Personally, it is my goal to visit each of the Hawaiian islands over and over again.

Here's my advice to all of my fellow Hawaiian travelers. Get the Bank of America Hawaiian Airlines card. I simply charge my gas/groceries and pay off my card each month. In the last two years I must of received six free round-trip tickets.

To answer your question, look at www.tripadvisor.comor get a Frommer's book. Both of them usually help me in my adventures.

Thanks for the advice about the Bank of America Hawaiian Airlines card. I LOVE Hawaii and I'm heading to the B of A website now to check out the card.

Aloha!

If you have time be sure to go to Hana. The drive is awesome (long, 3-4 hours one way) but well worth the time. Also drive up the summit of Haleakala(sp?) to see the sunrise. Well worth that drive too.

If you're looking for great food and a nice experience, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a is the place to go to. (especially if you have someone to impress) Mamas Fish House is another great spot. Did you know you can 'rent' a local for a day? It's a great experience. They do the driving and take you places, tourist aren't allowed. Have fun!

I have been to Hawaii 3 times in the last 15 years. I love Hawaii I hate the flight (from the east coast) but its a wonderful place.

I have been Maui twice. I can not be certain what side of the Island the Road to Hana is on but either way you should do it. Its the most awesome experience and you will get to see views that you can not see anywhere else on the Island period. I know they have a bus trip and its an all day event but you could also rent a car and drive it yourself. I would recommend the Bus though because I have done it both ways on seperate occassions and driving the road to Hana yourself can be a little scary at the bus drivers do this everyday all day long and they are very familiar with the road.

You will see some of the most incredible views of the Ocean, mountain sides, Waterfalls (lots of waterfalls) and there is an area called the seven sacredpools which is a waterfall that falls down into these pools of rock which spill over into another smaller pool of rock. You will go through a small town or two. It an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life that I am certain of. The other thing I would highly recommend is going to a Luai not just any Luai it has to be Germaine's Luai.

Well I hope your trip goes well.

Eat at "Bubba Gump's Shrimp Company" (order a Lava Flow) and take the boat out to Molokini to see the turtles and snorkel in the volcanic crater. Have fun.
