Hello there! I'm planning a trip in August with my two teenage boys (17 and 15) and I'm thinking of Cost Rica. I'm wondering if anyone has traveled there at this time of year and what resorts/areas would be recommended?

Thanks!

Hi! My brother, my mom and I went to Costa Rica on a high school trip and everyone loved it. We used EF. (I'm posting the link for an idea of what we did; if you download the PDF intinerary there's more detail.)

Costa Rica: A Touch of the Tropics

It was really wonderful. What I liked best was the INBioparque, a canopy tour: you travel through the canopy using ziplines, Poas Volcano, my favorite parks were Carara Reserve and Manuel Antonio National Park. We saw so many animals there! In Manuel some of the paths had blue crabs with bright orange legs all along the sides scuttling about. I know the Pacific side of the country where the Manuel park is has surfing, your sons might be able to do that somewhere. We did not do the white water rafting because of liability reasons. We went in April, so I can't give any insight to the weather. Hope this helps!

One more thing! If your outside in Costa Rica and it rains don't run for cover! It's warm and it won't hurt you, just enjoy it. Once it stops the sun will dry you off in no time.

My son, who went in HS and loved it, is taking his dad (me) for my 64th birthday...I hear they "surf" down the soft volcanic ash on the non-active side...then, speaking of surfing, we'll be attending the championships on Jaco beach Aug 6-8.

I was there last month, to be exact I was in San Jose, the capical . If you are planning to go to the capital area. The weather is warm during the day - though the temp starts dropping fairly quickly, by night you'll need to wear a sweater or jacket. its a mountain area so it gets a lot of "draft"
The cost line is fairly hot - no need to worry there. Costa Rica is a beautiful country. The country is the safest of latin america. The people are wonderful. Write back if you end up going.. would love to hear the feed back. enjoy.
