I haven't been to Vegas since the early 1980s. I will be spending a weekend there in July. Although a friend might meet me there, there's a good possibility I'll be entirely on my own.

Any suggestions for an unaccompanied woman on where to stay, where to go and/or what shows to see?

I'm not into gambling. I know I want to see the Fremont Street light show, and spend some time by a nice pool with a tropical drink... other than that, my time will be wide open.

Hi - I live in Vegas (yes, there really are people who live here and DON'T gamble). If you want a VERY nice First Rate hotel with a very "beachy"-atomosphere I would recommend Mandalay Bay. Your on the strip, it's a GORGEOUS hotel, has a sandy Beach pool, very south pacific flavor with wonderful restaurants and service. Close to everything and great shows. I always recommend Mandalay Bay and or "THE HOTEL" at Mandalay Bay (even more upscale). Hope you enjoy your stay and be sure to dress for our "dry heat" (104 today and pouring rain). Take care!
It's also very safe for a single woman (I am too). Be sure to see one of the Cirque de solei shows throughout the city different venues have different shows.

Depending on your budget I would stay at the Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Encore or Bellagio if you want a really nice resort but they are on the expensive side.

A little less expensive but still very nice are Treasure Island and the Mirage.

The pools at all those hotels are very nice.

A nice, Vegas-style magic show that's pretty cheap is Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo.

Any Cirque show will be good. Also Penn and Teller at the Rio and Blue Man Group at the Venetian are good.
