What kind of travel do you love most, and why? Close by car(or train)or do you prefer to fly far away?

I guess I'm just a 'travel junkie' because I love it all. I adore little day trips to see what's around the next corner but I'm really looking forward to a big around the world adventure. After a cruise to the Caribbean, I thought I wasn't interested in cruising but that changed when I traveled on board Celebrity Cruise Lines to Alaska last summer. Even train travel has been a delight...totally relaxing. Anyone need a travel buddy?? I just MIGHT be available!

I quit my job as a city bus driver (in 1994)making $18 per hour with great benefits and vacation time to drive a truck long-haul. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have traveled all of the lower 48 states in all kinds of weather. I have seen and visited parts of this wonderful country that I would never have seen otherwise AND got paid doing it.

cmegobye, I'm glad someone likes being out there. I'm tired of it, have been for some time. Half the time I get cut off anymore it's by another truck.

I like to drive. But without a schedule to hold to. Jump in the pickup and go. I don't think I would like flying.

I'm with dreamflyer, I like it all!

I took a road trip across the US and Canada a few years ago that was awesome - saw parts of North America that you normally would never see.

Took a train in Norway that went through some incredible country. And through the longest tunnel in the world - I think it was 25 miles. Thrilling!

I took a cruise a while back and wasn't all that enthralled, but I'm glad to hear that there's hope. I'd be curious to know what was different between the Caribbean and Alaskan cruises - was it the location? Or cruise line? Or timing?

I've flown so much, it's become old hat, but I still love it. Flying over the Rockies is still one of my favorites.

I, too, am hoping to do a big around the world adventure...one day, when I can work part time and take some serious time off...

I like to go on road trips with friends. I have been to Canada, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland. I also like going to the NYC but use the train to get there most of the time.

I love all kinds of travel. I get to travel all over the US for my job and I usually try to build in at least one day to explore.

I'm a history nut so my favorite type of travel has to do with going to ancient sites in Africa, Europe etc. I like to go local, do ecotourism and really have as unfiltered an experience as possible. I tend not like your typical beachy vacation unless I only have a few days to spare and just want to relax. Otherwise, I have tended towards full and total cultural immersion.

So, this decade I am opening my travel philosophy and including cruises, all inclusive beachy vacays as well as one bonafide 5 star non grunge type of vacation.

Places I want to go:

US:
Pacific North West
Dakotas
New Mexico
Minnesota

Int:
Caribbean islands
Greece
Egypt
Hawaii

my preference is to experience the roads less traveled by motorcycle. either alone or with a couple of buddies (keep the group to 3-4 max) seeing small town America and Canada from the open cockpit of a motorcycle is wonderful.

when on a motorcycle the day is not about the destination, but totally about the journey. what are you seeing, smelling, feeling? enjoying the twists of the road. stopping for lunch at a small town diner and talking with the locals is a wonderful connection that is difficult to duplicate when one sticks to the interstate ribbons.

I would concur that the area btw Vancouver and Calgary is spectaculor. words fail me. the mountains of the US pale in comparison to the Canadian Rockies. and this from one who was born and raised in MT, where we have some pretty impressive mountains.

Road trip. Throw a tent and a grill in the pickup and go just about anywhere.
