I can't tell you what Martial ArtsI think is the best, or what opens there are, I can just tell youmy opinionfor the ones I've done.

Aikido - stay calm, balanced, and redirect your opponents force. Fun to see how you can flip a person without breaking a sweat. Steven Segal uses throughout most of his movies. Similar to Tai Chi even thought some will argue on the finer points.

Judo - too much wrassling for me. The bigger, heavier person has a huge advantage. If they get you tied up in a pretzel hold, poke them in a pressure point and after they let go (and quickly), they'll claim you cheated. I say, "What rules?". If they use your gi to put you in a choke hold, poke them in the eye or the soft spot in their neck, or even shove your finger up their nose and see how fast they'll release that choke hold.

TaeKwon Do - Stay calm, one punch, one kick, end the fight as soon as possible. Not what you see in the Olympics. The Olympics has rules, i.e. no hits to the head, but the legs and groin are legit targets. So you'll see them drop their hands to protect their lower body while exposing their heads. That's the World TaeKwon Do Ferderation. The International TaeKwon Do Federation has the opposite rules, no knee, leg or groin shots, and the heads are legit targets. Personally I think the ITF method fighting a WTF trained fighter would be to avoid the kick, and while their hands are still down protecting their groin, slide in and punch them in the head and knock them out. Probably won't see that in the Olympics.

Kung Fu - If it's anything like the movies, the fight will last for 20 minutes, no one tires out, and each person can sustain numerous punches, kicks, and keep fighting. I think that's because Kung Fu is all about speed with very little power behind all those slaps and kicks. And even though Jackie Chan is fun to watch, I would put my money on Jet Li.

Army Hand to Gland Combat - kill the enemy as fast as you can, then move on to the next one. No rules, but hard to have tournaments to practice if you're killing each other. I mean, how does one practice ripping out their adam's , eyes or their heart?

I think learning to defend yourself without weapons is better than with a weapon. You may not have your weapon with you when you get into a situation, so all your weapons training would be worthless. As far as I know, carrying swords is illegal in most places.

Tournament fighting depends on the rules of the tournament to determine which martial arts to use. Even the UFC has rules.

Real street fighting - no rules. The more styles and techniques you know, probably the better. Confuse the opponent. Use Aikido to redirect their force into a wall, then punch them while they are trying to avoid it or are falling. If they use TaeKwon Do to kick you, grab their leg (grabbing is not allowed!, right?) and then sweep them to the ground. If they use Kung Fu, take the slap and then hit them with a ton of bricks (power punches), preferably to their head. But remember, for every attack, there is a counter.

The easiest thing to do on the street is to blow out their knee with a quick kick, then walk away.

But if they have a gunand are too far away to attack, give them your wallet, address them as Sir, and live to fight another day.

I think you get the idea. Again, just my humble opinion.
