So tonight I get to go to my first live "American" football game! Going to see the Patriots play their 1st preseason game. Most of you who know me will know I love sports, but although I understand soccer ("real" football for me!) inside & out, I don't understand the rules of football.

So come on folks, give me basic some "Football for Dummies" pointers to send me on my way....

Well Redsoxgirl....


Some of the basics.


To geta first down the team has to complete10 yards eith by passing the ball or running the ball. The team has 4 tries to get a first down. So you will hear them say 1st and ten or 2nd and 4. That means 1st down and ten yards to go or 2nd down and four yards to reach a first down.


There are plenty of penalties out there and whomever you are going with will need to explain those to you as they happen.


Hope that is at least a litte help. Feel free to ask me anything about the game. I absolutely love football!!

oh yea - forgot - each first down will get the team closer to the goal of a touchdown!
