Do you Bike around town?Gas prices are at an all time high & have frustrated enough of us to shop for a higher MPG auto, or consider bus travel, biking, or even walking! I recently joined the ranks of the Greenest Greenies. As a professional female, I need to maintain a certain level of business dress at work. Arriving early (about a half hour), the on-site gym, shower and locker area easily accomodate a clean-up, quick-change act, from which I can be ready for anything work brings, and look like I just stepped out of a BMW from the parking garage. Luckily, my bike, which hasfenders, rack in back, lights, and water bottle holders, accomodates 'saddlebags' to holdclothes on one side and lunch and dinner on the other, with zip pockets for portable hard drives/files/office stuff; it alsofits nicelyin my office, so there areno worries about where to safely stow the 'new vehicle'. and the 'travel-proof' clothes available online or at your local mall's chic0s are great for arriving wrinkle-free and are comfy also. In FL, the warm-year-round climate is God's gift to elderly retirees, but,one may sweat alot on the way to work; hanging modern-fabric workout/commute clothes to dry while at work, is a breezeand it's nicer to wear them when they're dry on the triphome. In the cooler months, showering may not be necessary. What are some of your travel-lite tips?

I walk to a lot of places that would take me two minutes by car. I started walking to the grocery store, of course I buy a lot less. There's so many places in walking distance for me it is practically unnecessary to get in the car as often as I used to. I also started walking to/from work. But yes, walking presents a problem because oftentimes the weather might be too warm and who wants to show up some places sweaty and gross...or sometimes you just don't have the time to shower several times a day. So, if I'm going out somewhere later like dinner with friends and just don't have the time I'll drive instead.

I do not even own a car! I walk or cycle or take public transportation depending on the distance. Actually it is one of the reasons why I love living in Japan.

Not if you live out in the country, and work is a 45 min drive

I agree with teena, I too live about 40 miles from work so riding a bike is out of the question. That's why I bought a hybrid

I used to cycle or run to/from work (a satisfying 10km one way) my new office (about 12km one way) doesn't have appropriate personal storage facilities so public transport is the way for me.

Now with daylight saving I'll be running or walking home a couple of times a week
