Baseball.

The assymetry of the playing field.
The way guys look in the uniforms.
The sound of cracking bat, ball thunking into mitt.
The quirkiness of the rules.
How once the ball leaves the pitcher's hand, *anything* can happen.
The long periods of quiet, then all hell breaks loose.
The streaks -- 7 scoreless innings then hit hit hit run run run run!
The history of the game.
Vin Scully's voice (Dodgers' announcer for 60+ years).
The stadia. Dodgers: so 60's! so space-age!

And you? Why do you like your favorite sport?

Football...

-The strategy of it...
-Its timed, so players are more in a hurry to play...
-Full participation, full contact, by every player, on every play.
-Doesn't put me to sleep when I watch it, either on TV or at the stadium.

Gymnastics. For the great athleticism and flippity-flip moves they can pull off.

The children's awe when they get a ball or an autograph before a game.

The Cubs are my team (since there are 2 in Chicago) and going to a game at Wrigley Field is like going back in time. It's sad to see the commercialization of the park. I would also be happy if the Cubs could lose their history of longest period between championships.

Perhaps I need to give football a chance ... those are interesting qualities, plus it's mostly off-season from baseball! I find the hard-core physical aggression hard to take, on TV. When I have gone to games, I find myself getting very caught up in it though!

Flippity-Flip! lol Perfect word for this. I love that about gymnastics too!

Oh yes, the kids at ballparks! So fun. I want to go to Wrigley field someday, also Fenway. I'm hoping the Dodgers make the WS in my lifetime. The current team has so much promise but so far just hasn't quite had it.

In my neighborhood the city's upgraded one park and built a new one recently ... and added bocce ball courts. ?? I have never seen them being used, and I go to parks every day (doggy walking).

I want to see a bocce ball game!

Hockey.

The speed of the game, the speed of the players.
The incredible agility and grace - they swerve, turn, skate backwards! On ice!
During the playoffs - the beards. I do love a nice beard.
And yes, the sudden, unpredictable but quite calculated outbursts of violence, often part of the game strategy.

There's no other sport that can keep me glued to the television, knitting without looking at my stitches, for over three hours.

National Rugby League (NRL) Football.

It's a full-contact sport, but our players don't wear helmets or padding generally, mouth guards yes.

To me it is a game of skill, strategy, strength and stamina. It's incredibly exciting play when a pass is intercepted and what follows is almost a full length field sprint and a successful try conversion!

The game varies in sometimes it is so fast paced the camera-man lose the location of the ball, and at other times the strategy of play is visible with keeping the ball alive and driving forward toward the goalposts.

I love how the referees (umpires ) indicate a score.
