So former NYG Plaxico Burress reported to jail yesterday. Where he was not greeted with open arms by the inmates at Rikers Island.

I am glad to see that the State of NY did not waiver on it gun laws. Too many professional athletes get off for their celebrity status

Was the 2yrs a bit harsh or did the punishment fit the crime?

The punishment fit the crime, but not the intent behind the crime.

Looking at the big picture, the law Burress violated (and the mandatory minimum sentence imposed) is intended to prevent bad people from taking guns into places where they shouldn't be. While Burress is a knucklehead, I don't think he's within this group of people the NY legislature contemplated when making this law. It wasn't his intent to harm the public-at-large by bringing the gun into the club, but what he did was incredibly stupid. Basically another case of celebrities and athletes thinking they are above the law.

I wish the best for him. I'm sure he'll have plenty of time to think about what he did, and how it has affected his family.
