So this weekend is the kickoff for college football season.

Any big college fans (tailgaters)? Any predictions for who will be left standing at the end of the season?

I have several friends that are diehard Ole Miss fans and they are a little nervous. They are worried that the team may not live up to all the good press they have been getting.

It's a fifteen hour drive to where I went to college as an undergraduate. No tailgating for me. I'm not even sure what conference they play in now. I follow a couple of the local colleges, Villanova and Temple, along with Penn State. I did go to the University of Tennessee as an undergraduate but not the one in Knoxville. Since my school doesn't get on TV, I root for the Vols when they're on. I did watch OSU beat up on Georgia today.

I'm just happy to watch OU lose against BYU.

The dang Longhorn game was only on PPV! Good thing it wasn't a good game, I suppose.

Go Gators!

I'm a more objective college football fan, but in this case I think the Gators are clearly the best. There are some very good teams out there: LSU, Alabama, USC, Penn State to name a few. I believe the following teams are overrated:

1. Ohio State -- got lucky against Navy yesterday. Really lucky.

2. Notre Dame -- OK, so I'm usually objective. I hate Notre Dame. They'll do "well" this year because they essentially play a high school schedule, and their only test will come against USC. So more than likely, ND will get a BCS bowl, which is BS.

3. Oklahoma. This is not just a statement of convenience made in lieu of their loss yesterday and an injured Sam Bradford. They lost many starters on both sides of the ball, and Texas is clearly a better team they OU this season.

4. Georgia. As an SEC follower I knew their ranking was unwarranted even before their loss to Oklahoma State yesterday.

5. Penn State. I like Joe Pa and followed Penn State growing up, but the Big Ten is just not a very strong conference anymore. This is made evident anytime they show up for a BCS game. Plus the fact that they play one less game than all of the other major conferences, yet still get ranked highly, doesn't curry them any extra favor with me.

Ole Miss is an interesting case. I think they're going to be dangerous, and I'm glad Florida doesn't have to face them again during the regular season. I don't know if Ole Miss finishes a top 10 team, but I do think they're certainly in the running to make an appearance in the SEC championship.

Roll Tide! 'Nuff said.

I also support LSU as long as they're not playing Alabama.
