ESPN sportswriter John Hollinger recently came out with his all-time rankings of the NBA teams. Here were his Top 10:

1. L.A. Lakers
2. Boston Celtics
3. San Antonio Spurs
4. Chicago Bulls
5. Phoenix Suns
6. Philadelphia 76ers
7. Utah Jazz
8. Portland Trailblazers
9. Indiana Pacers
10. Houston Rockets

The criteria for the rankings included total victories in franchise history, number of NBA titles won, and legends who have played for those teams. What I noticed was that neither the Suns nor the Pacers have won a title yet are in the Top 10, while the Detroit Pistons have won 3 titles and didn't make the list.

How would you rank them? Which teams would you replace, and with what teams?

It's something of a skewed ranking system ... some teams have significantly less NBA history ... either because they were originally part of the ABA or didn't even exist. Over half of the Celtics titles and 1/3 of the Lakers' came prior to the Suns entrance to the NBA.

And they're an old team compared to many ... Nets, Nuggets, Spurs, and Pacers didn't join until the ABA merger in the mid-70s and some teams (Magic, Heat, Hornets, Timberwolves, etc.) didn't exist until much later.

No offense to Stockton and Malone, but drop the Jazz and give the Pistons a spot. Not that it matters ... just a list.
