Technically, Jefferson and Franklin weren't atheists. Irreverent as they often were (and very critical of the organized religion and clergy of their day), they were actually deists. I have great admiration for both these men and would love to be in a room chatting with both of them.

And they sometimes seem to 'tag team' with each other on here against 'common/shared enemies'.

My Christian friends will take up arms against me for saying this, but it really doesn't matter whether God created man or man created God I think the end result will be the same.

I like Diana's take best...God is. It is extremely difficult to define God. He is. He is someone to fall on your knees before in worship, awe and fear. He is so holy He cannot be looked at. Yet He is also gentle and loving and wants us to call Him Father. This is just a start, I'm sure others can add more.

(I am glad to see Diana P back to visit the Religion board!)
