With all respect, a book about what?

That's like having books on people that don't believe in Superman. To atheists, it's all the same.
I meant there should be a book about what it means to be "better." That way atheists could compare it to Ayn Rand's philosophy and label her the equivalent of a heretic, or sinner, or something. Right now there is no unifying principle behind atheism except the non-existence of God. That seems a little sloppy to me. It's also a waste of a group that could wield real political power as it increases in number.

"Better" will always be subjective. I've just personally mostly found that other atheists see things (aside from lack of belief in a deity, obviously) very similarly to myself. For me, the way I see things is in accordance with what I see to be most beneficial, but that doesn't mean that everyone would see it that way.

A lack of belief in a god is not a defining trait, or anything really, it is just without, no more, no less. Though I hate to continually compare God to a cartoon or a superhero, it's hard to explain things to theists sometimes in how we, as atheists, view god, but a similar comparison is like you are no more defined by not believing in superman or Mickey Mouse than I am in not believing in god.

YES, and the whole point is to NOT have "political power", unless someone is attempting to force their theology/views/morals on us via actual legislstion, or promising to do such if elected into office/power.

Most of us are staunch, FIERCE defenders of the 'Wall Of Separation' between church and state.

There is. Throughout the whole of recorded human history, many books have been written about what a "better" society/way to live is. Which one is better, or more "correct"?

Christians themselves aren't unified around much of anything themselves, accept the existence of a god - witness the multitude of translations of the Bible and numerous sects. They also generally deny the existence of the deities of other religions. How many Christians believe in Kali, Shiva, Set, or Osiris (for example)? That lack of belief in those deities make Christians atheists as well.

^^^GREAT point!!

Also, most consider ONLY their own, personal sect of Christianity to be 'the one and only TRUE' version of such (see how many Southern Baptists/evangelicals/fundies, etc. hate Willard soooo much that they will NEVER even think of voting for him, being a Mormon).

So they are even atheists within the general subset of 'Christians'.

Of course there is no underlying principle! A-theism (noun): the LACK of a belief in any deity. [note the prefix 'a']

Atheism is a negative attribute. There are no universal principles underlying atheism for the same reason there aren't any magazines about how to NOT knit sweaters.

You lucked out! Amazon has books and/or magazines on--

How NOT to RV.
How NOT to act like a little old lady.
How NOT to look old.
How NOT to rob a department store.

But you're correct, there are only blogs and webpages on how NOT to knit!

It's a niche market waiting to be filled.
