I was in a different Catholic church and when I came in I couldn't find the Advent wreath. For a while I wondered if they were not doing it, but as I left found it toward the back over the Holy Water. It felt like something was missing the whole time till I saw it. This is a newer church and the architecture seems much less Catholic than the other churches I am used to attending.
It is very interesting to me any time I attend Mass at one of those "new-fangled" Catholic churches. Where are the kneelers? What am I supposed to do in the traditional parts of the Mass where I would normally be kneeling? Just sit? That just seems... wrong.

It always amazes me anyway when I got to Mass and see that most of the people in attendance have no idea when they are supposed to sit/stand/kneel/etc. They do not know the recitations and responses. I admit that in recent years I have become a "CEO" Catholic - Christmas and Easter Only - but for me, it's like riding a bike. I spent so many years attending Mass every Sunday that it's like second nature. It's sad to see all the people who have never been educated in the proper observance of rituals at a Catholic Mass.

WW, when my mom died just before Christmas, by then 11 year old daughter was so upset. I told her "Grandma gets to have Christmas w/ the birthday boy." I'll never know where I pulled that one from, but it seemed to help.

I believe that those churches without kneelers are now being told by the local bishops to put them back. With the new version of the Roman missel a lot of us are confused. Everyone is trying to get the responses right, not sure it is an improvement.
