If Jesus Christ was walking amongst us today in the flesh would He be Democrat or Republican?

Even though the Gospel writers contradict each other to varying degrees, there is still a basic message of unity in Christ's teachings. It's unlikely that, if Jesus returned today, he'd have any use for the institutions of politics and religion - as these tend to divide people, not unite them. I suspect he'd have little more than scorn for them. It's been said before that, if Jesus returned today, the last thing he'd want to be is a Christian - especially considering how most of the people who claim to follow His teachings behave. Assuming Jesus really did walk the earth and had the wisdom ascribed to Him, He would understand that politics and faith have almost always been a universally bad combination.

It's a pity that more of his followers haven't made that realization.
Yes, it is astounding how few have made that realization, and just how many more do the exact opposite.

Agreed. In fact Jesus says just that in Mark 8:15 in reference to the "leaven of Herod":

“Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

The following explanation comes from chapter 18 of Blood Guilt, (New Covenant Press) page 258:
The outward show of religion, along with a combination of bribes and violence, currying favors with secular political leaders, and manipulating the religious leaders of the people, were all used by the Herods to maintain their dynasty for more than a century. Though they could have served as the heads of the Hebrew religious republic, the Herods instead became like all the other vassal kings of Rome: worldly, violent and corrupt. For the most part, they became mirror images of Rome’s leaders and politicians, espousing Roman values, including the pursuit of power at any cost and the disregard for life.

Such was the substance of Herod’s leaven. In the context of the late Second Temple period, Jesus’ warning against the “leaven of Herod” must have been a reference to that one thing that was most responsible for Herod and his family’s rise to power. Specifically, the insertion of religion into the world of politics (and vice versa). From a study of Herod and the Sadducees we can see how undesirable and unforeseen consequences result when a professedly devout individual or religious body pursues alliances with political rulers.

He didn't take a [political] stand because he didn't actually utter those words. In fact, there's almost no evidence to support the assertion that a man named Jesus actually walked the earth, nor uttered the words ascribed to him the Gospels.

Send the above to Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and all of the rest , et al.

But of course, they would find a way to twist it around and say they would NOT be doing their 'duties' as "good Christians" if they did NOT try to influence, or even be IN politics themselves.
