How many people think the world will end in the near future... say... in the next century? How do you think it will happen? Can it, or should it, be prevented? If so... how?

If by world you means universe, I don't recall any scientific predictions for the world to end within this century. Hell, it's still expanding. If by world you mean human society as it's known here and now--according to R.E.M., already it's the end of the world as we know it.

Humans may die out......but that is of no importance..IN FACT ..........Nothing is important...

We....(humans) have ALWAYS 'been' here..and will ALWAYS 'be' here in some form or another.

Such an interesting answer! If you're sorry you don't practice a particular religion, that's quite easy to change.

I'd suggest a religion that offers you as many celebrations and as few fasts and somber days as possible. Maybe Hindi? I also know some Persians who celebrate both Persian and Christian holidays!

Man... where was my over-precise pedantic mode of speech on that one?

I definitely should have been more specific. I am referring to the end of humanity, be it as a civilization or as a species. Armageddon, the Rapture, global pandemics, nuclear holocaust, killer asteroids, super-volcanoes, climate and ecological collapse... there are a lot of options on the table!

How do you see things shaking out?

99% percent of all species that ever lived on this rock have gone extinct for one reason or another. There's absolutely no logical reason to think we won't either - it's a question of when, not if. The universe is a very violent place, lots of possibilities:

1. gamma ray burst from some nearby astronomical source
2. coronal mass ejection from our own sun
3. comets, asteroids
4. ALIENS!!!!!

Then there's always the usual suspects of human-induced calamities brought on by war, greed, outright stupidity, ideologies, etc. So many ways to die, so little time to consider them all. All the more reason to make the most of this life while you can.
