Yes the Jews have looked into this.

It is written that the 'Absolute All' withdrew Himself from a 'place' to create a VOID.

In that void He placed the 'Mirror of Existance'

The reason?.........so 'God wished to behold God'

This is the FIRST act of contraction. (Zimzum)

It is taught: 'The book of concealment is the book describing that which is weighed in the Balance.
For before there was a Balance (Universe), FACE did not gaze upon FACE'

Early man realised that the EYE cannot see itself unless it is reflected back.

'To SEE' is to be aware.

When God 'sees' His Image in us (man...the universe), then He 'sees' Himself.

IS AWARE OF ITSELF

Only man has the potential to re-flect the IMAGE.

God 'sees' all in the ONE Eternal Moment.
Time is the 'WAY'...............................

How do we set about being God's Mirror??

Perhaps, the question is not whether we have been fashioned in God's image, but whether or not God, or the gods, were fashioned in man's image; especially in terms of anthropomorphisms found in the various "sacred writings." After all, we share biology, or material existence, with the animal kingdom. And if we shared anything with the divine, or the spiritual, then it would necessarily follow that we share that "imago dei" in the realm of spirit.

Also, humankind is endowed with a capacity to reason nonexistent among other creatures with whom we share flesh and blood existence. And it is that capacity to reason that gives us a sense of moral "oughtness" nonexistent among other flesh and blood beings in the material order. After all, we do not put a lion, bear, or shark on trial for killing another living material being. However, the capacity to reason has endowed us with the ability to determine right from wrong. And therefore, having that capacity makes us morally responsible for our actions. And perhaps, it is also in that capacity that we share the "imago dei." And that capacity may also indicate a unique realm of spirit with which we do not share with the rest of the animal kingdom, but with the divine.
