These three men in this video from ABC News believe they are Jesus Christ. Two of them have millions of followers. The third has only one, himself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUpp_UrnjFc&feature=relmfu

What makes people follow these individuals? Is it purely just charisma or could there be some element of truth to their claims?

One claims that if God didn’t want him to be successful there is no other way a man of such meager beginnings could have acquired so much wealth.

What makes these individuals believe they are the Son of God? Are they delusional? Are they instruments of the divine or just clever conmen?

Yea? Nay? What say you?

Interesting video! I am always very skeptical of any of these claims. BUT...wasn't that the same reaction Jesus received? He, of course, had followers but weren't there many who didn't believe he was who he said he was?

Charles Manson also had dozens/maybe hundreds of followers who believed that he was Jesus Christ. I think Manson is completely insane and I don't think he will ever get out of prison - although, he comes up for parole every few years anyway. I am not sure if Manson actually believed that he was Jesus Christ (he often referred to himself as "J.C." and asked his "family" to do the same) or if he merely wanted his family to believe that he was J.C.

We know not the hour that the Son of Man returns. But it safe to say that for 99% of the historical population that day will be the day they die and meet Jesus to account for their lives.

Christians are not to be worried or concerned in the least but rather always be in joyful watching and anticipation and be prepared and ready to die for their faith if called to that.

There will be no mistaking the 2nd coming when it does happen. But there are not even any signs we are close to it yet since we have not yet had the Minor Chastisement (which is not so minor at all) and the advent of the False Prophet who tries to emulate John the Baptist to prepare the way of the False Messiah (the Anti-Christ). Given that there should be a protracted golden era of peace and tranquility before any of this occurs I'd say chances are we are still many centuries away from the general 2nd coming. People should get their own houses in order and stop worrying...

I believe that any end of the world situation is just a means of providing fear and control. There has been many possible ends to our race and planet, but here we still are.

After all words are said of doom,
the next day,
the sun will still shine,
the rain will still pour
and the flowers will still bloom.

I have an aunt who used to be a nurse in a mental institution. She said half the men there claimed they were Jesus Christ.

Yes, they are delusional. And so are the people who follow them.

If these people are frauds does God have mercy on their followers?

Hard to say. Seems like they'd be breaking the "No false idols" commandment. One of the Big Ten, you know....

That's an interesting point. Anyone who says they are a prophet or Messiah is immediately disqualified just by claiming to be so and setting themselves up as an idol. Good one, Wonderwoman!

Insanity and utter hubris coupled with delusional thinking. In some rare cases demonic possession as well...
