Hi. It's late, so I haven't read every page here, so my apologies in advance if what I say has already been stated. In answer to the original question about why believers don't want to die when heaven is so glorious, I would say several things. First of all, there is definitely a fear of the unknown. After all, no one in this present age has come back from the dead to tell us what the process of dying or the afterlife was like, and none of us have any experience in the matter either. We have the Bible that says that it is wonderful, but I can only take that on faith, and while I do believe it, since I have never experienced it, there's still a certain sense of trepidation. Secondly, everybody is attached to this world since it is all we know and it is where our sense of pleasure currently comes from. Mankind was never designed to live in heaven; they were always supposed to live on earth. Adam and Eve were created for the Garden of Eden, and after they fell into sin, God promised to create a new(perfect) heaven and earth for us to dwell in eternally. Hence the naturally attachment to planet earth. Thirdly, we have loved ones here. My grandfather is dying, and I don't want to see him go because I want more time with him now, and I know he wants more time with us now. The same is true with any good relationship. You have no desire to leave them for such a possibly long time.

In answer to the Tower of Babel versus space exploration, the answer, in my opinion, is purely motivation. The Tower of Babel was built for the express purpose of defying God. God told man to scatter, and the refused. Instead they built the tower and wanted to all live near the tower. Space shuttles, as far as I know, were just built for the purpose of exploring space.
