Should 'stillness' be taught from the pulpit?
Is our 'journey ' from movement to stillness?
Is 'GOD' .....................'STILL'?

hermes,

I hope the following verses will give you some insight into what the Bible means by "be still".

Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

Matthew 6:26-27 " Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life"

Matthew 6:31-34 " So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

God bless,

Peter

What you have posted is about worrying....NOT about becoming STILL.

'BE still and know that I am God'

SO.....(If you do not want to know that I am God....dont be still')?

There must be something about being still......(NOT MOVING)...that enables us to KNOW GOD...??

Being "still" does not only refer to movement. Still your mind, quiet your thoughts, turn off your inner chatter, and what is left is the voice of God.

Dr. Wayne Dyer (a great motivational speaker) has a quote: "If prayer is you talking to God, then your intuition is God talking to you". You cannot hear your "intuition" if your mind is not "still".

So, I guess you are right: Don't be still and don't open yourself to hear the voice of God. But, God is there, whether you are listening or not. Be "still", and hear him.

hermes,

This quote: "Be still, and know that I am God" is from Psalm 46. To help put this in context, Psalm 46 begins with: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging."

In this context, the opposite of being still is being restless, anxious, worried about the world and what is happening. God wants you to know that even if the world appears to be in chaos, ultimately He is in control, so you do not have to be worried. You do not have to run around like a chicken with your head cut-off. You can simply be still, and know that He is God. Know that He is in control.

God bless,

Peter
