The Isrealites didnt even believe in the place that is now called hell.

Gehenna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gehanna was also know as the jewish garbage dump which caught on fire. Thieves (and other undesirables) were not buried, they were thrown in gehanna. It was concidered disgracefull. If people would note who he was speaking with, it was the priests (the polititcians of the day) who were going to that place. In 70AD (the end of the age) the Romans did take the Temple during one of the highest services.
Other words translated to hell by King James had to do with death destruction and the grave. O, and then there is hades which is like the world of the dead from the Egyptions. Interesting, since Moses came from there and the holies of holies is also found in the pyramids.

Whatever...'IS'....must be of benefit/use to the Source of what...IS...

How does the Source of all things benefit, and how do WE benefit from ...'HELL'?

What is its purpose?

Hell is designed to evoke fear.

Fear= control

How else would churches have lasted as long as they have if they didnt have something to sell you (redemption) from something made up by man?

What "benefit" could there possibly be from the eternal torment of conscious beings? If anything, it is sadistic, and serves no redemptive value, especially since there is no possibility of rehabilitation.

At least the concept of purgatory offers the viable possibility of serving one's time for the penalty of one's failings and shortcomings in this life; much like the criminal who finds redemption, and refinement of character, after paying the price for his crimes, and coming to terms with himself and what he has done. And then, is released and finds true freedom ( I realize the current justice system basically creates repeat offenders; but, in an ideal world, punishment offers the possibility of rehabilitation).

But, the concept of hell is eternal by nature. Above it's entrance, the immortal Dante has left his sign, "Abandon all hope ye who enter here." What "benefit" does that serve, if there is no possibility of redeeming the offender, and no possibility of parole?

I ask the question because I feel there is a reason for everything that ...IS....
Hell...(what ever it is) must be of benefit to evolution and the ongoing process of LIFE.
Perhaps we may suspend our view of what the actual word has meant all these years, which I feel is seen in a negative manner.

Hell and the word ...'TO HOLD'...seem somewhat similar. Add. 'ed' to the end of the word and perhaps we may see a different meaning and its purpose. To be 'HELD'....and to be DAMNED.....are somewhat similar. Water is damned for a reason. The power of a drop of water is not the same as billions of drops of water held in a damn.
It may be suggested that we humans have within ourselves a POTENTIAL.....and this NEEDS to be HELD.....so understanding in the time process may grow......like drops of water.

'HEAVEN IS A GIFT WRAPPED IN HELL'....(so the saying goes)

If someone needs hell hung over their head in order to behave in a manner suited for society, then I wont deny them that threat.
It just seems pretty sad people have to live in a black and white world of heaven hell, live or die, and threats from a God who is supposed to be all love.
Kinda scitzo when you really think about it huh?
I suspect humans are finally evolving past religions iron grip of threats.
To everything there is a season right?
I am just wondering when we will evolve to the point war isnt the only way to handle things anymore.
