Not to argue semantics, but is it really faith if you have no doubts?

I’m pretty sure of what I believe now, even so I try to keep an open mind because I’ve already experienced a major paradigm shift once in my life. It was like a freight train hitting a mountain. I had to accept what was unfolding whether I wanted to or not. It is extremely disconcerting to have something you are so sure of redefined and the comfort of knowing you are right about something taken away.

The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle basically says that you can never be 100% sure of anything. That I exist I’m pretty sure of; the how’s, the why’s, and the what’s next is where I try to keep an open mind.
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1)

A common misconception is that the Christian faith is simply another faith in the existence of a Creator with focus on Jesus who is said to be the sacrifice for the sins of the world, but this misses the mark. The reality is that our faith is a faith in the promises of God, based on his grace and sovereignty and mercy and love (purposely written that way). The writer delves further into this by giving examples of the faithful and what their faith truly was. For the Christian, the existence of God and Lordship of Christ is not questionable, in fact, it is absolute fact and attested to by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. When Peter confessed Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of the living God, Jesus responded by saying that this was not revealed by man, but by God Himself (Matthew 16:13-20). Later, Paul, when writing to the Corinthian church reinforces the point marvelously, proclaiming that no one can say "Jesus is Lord" unless by the Holy Spirit and no one can say "Jesus is cursed" by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:3). When the test of faith arises, it is a test that attempts to throw the grace and sovereignty of God into question; this is no longer questionable.

I was waiting to be seated at a restaurant the other day and overheard the lady next to me and her friend talking about Haiti. She was telling her friend that the disaster and widespread death & destruction made her question whether or not there is a God.

Her friend replied and said to her something like: "Or, you can allow this to strengthen your faith -- the disaster / destruction could have been twice as worse."

Interesting perspectives, both, which got me pondering a larger question:

What sorts of things, if any, "test" your faith?
Why would the widespread death and destruction in Haiti mean that there is no God?

So I have eternal life and am going to heaven and so whatever my trials and tragedies and pain and frustrations on earth may be, it shall eventually pass away, and my eternal future is bright.
If this is the case, why do people fight so desperately to stay alive?

I'd like to think that I wouldn't allow myself to be bullied, but when the choice is, "Give in or we will beat your husband and rape your daughters", I think I'd give in.
Would not the obvious solution be to fight back, as Charles Martel did?
