mm. i don't think that's quite right. he did follow his father, and abided by the religion of judaism.

however, the point is, (christian) religion is the study of christ (and his dad and the holy spirit). everything you or i can know about jesus can, ultimately, only be had from religion. the bible itself - its preservation, its memorization and then the business of putting ink to paper, the fostering of literacy, etc. - all these are works of religion.

now it may seem you can pick up a bible and a dictionary at Barnes & Noble these days, and thus avoid religion. however, not so. 1) a common dictionary is not sufficient for gaining accurate meaning from the bible. and 2) no matter what you do, any bible you can buy - it's only there to be bought because religion made and preserved the record of jesus that the bible is.

I understand what you are saying and I agree. Spirituality, love, compassion were all things Jesus taught. We are all born with these qualities and the desire to live a spiritual life. Religious dogma was invented by people. Formal religion offers more limitations in how your express your spirituality than on any sort of enlightenment. It's more a means of controlling the masses. If everyone would look inside themselves instead of outside themselves, they would find peace.

True Christianity is about having a relationship with Christ. Just knowing info and saying yea I'm a christian because I read the Bible and know it, but if you don't put it into practice, talk the talk and walk the walk, then it is all worthless stuff.

Hmmmm...nice convo.
True, I have experienced damage done by "religious well meaning people", and found true spiritual freedom and private authenticity, in relationship with Jesus. I know that it is a simple thing, surrender, honesty and continual cultivating being more like Jesus in what I life, not just in words....

What if you don't believe in christ? What about Muslim and Hindus and Muslims? Why the emphasis on christ all of the time? Most people in the world are not christian.

Also, by definition, there can be only one true christianity. Since no two people agree exacly on what christ's words mean and/or what every other passage of the bible mean, then only one person is right and the others are all wrong by definition. Just like no one is normal because if one person is defined as normal then everyone else will be abnormal in some way. So, who is right? And how arrogant is it to think you alone are right and everyone else is wrong?

Emme, it's about Christ because the thread is about being Christ-like, not mohammed or anyone else. As to our "arrogance"... What if we are right and you are wrong?
