I find religion fascinating, though i dont subscribe to any particular one. I'm not an atheist though, i believe in a great Creator, but i refuse to attatch a label, name, or myth, to him/her/it. What use would a being with the power to create life on such a large scale have for a name, or book of legends? think about it for a minute, the world, the animals, humans, insects, and bacteria, and how unbvelievably intricate it all is, how perfectly the majority of life on this planet not only coexists, but works together to continue the life of their species and others. How do the various books of legends or the names him/her/it has been given by a multitude of different cultures measure up to what has been done by this being? i just dont know. I'm looking for an outside perspective here, any thoughts?

well, i can tell you from personal experience of one "book of legends" that is as relevant today as the tay it was written. it is called the bible, and the creator named in the book has over 150 names, all describing different attributes of the same being, but when asked who he was, he simply said "i am who i am" the really cool part about the bible is how much it is able to show you how deeply the creator of the universe, and everything in it cares for YOU. You as a person, when he knows everything you have ever done or ever will do. HE loved us all so much he sent his son to die for our sins so that we could experience a personal relationship with HIM. i have been a christian for 15 years now, but it still blows my mind that the one who created the universe cares enough about me that he would talk to me and love me enough to die for me... the muslims believe that god making himself man, and then dying for us is the worst possible thing a god could do... and i agree... but i am grateful for it. think about it... he came from a place of eternal glory and beauty, where he was constantly being worshiped to this (comparitivley speaking) germ and disease infested dump in the form of a vulnerable baby who was eventually scorned, mocked, beaten and killed, and he did it all FOR YOU! if you have any questions or want to know more feel free to message me.

That was a little harsh, I was in a bad mood that day. I know that like politics, this is a sensitive subject. I usually avoid both topics like the plague for that reason. I'm sorry if anyone took offense, I meant nothing by it, after all Gandhi said it not me....it is pretty clever though. lol

It would only be harsh to those who did not realize the truth in it. Going to church does not make one a christian. Gandhi was a peaceful person and what he spoke had much truth to it.

Thanks Landstar, I appreciate your 'down to earthness' about it. I didn't want to start any grudge wars, and I wasn't trying to insult anyone's beliefs, or their commitment to them. It just struck me a little funny at the time, and it is a clever quote, thanks for understanding.

That is one of my favorite quotes. Gandhi was a very peaceful and wise man. I don't think anyone will take offense, since it is true today of many who claim to be "Christian". We have all met someone who talks the talk, but does not walk the walk.

And when you think about it, can ANYONE of ANY faith background measure up to Jesus (or their ideal)? Honestly!

SO, I'm not the least bit offended by a comment that christians are not as good as Jesus. That's like saying that you can't find a single hill as tall as Everest. Duh.
