Hello,

Is there a such thing as a non-Christian job/career? My co-worker heard this topic on the radio, and we pretty much discussed it all day. IMO, the person defines the job. Thoughts, opinions - let the good times roll.

I agree with notyet's opinion on this one.

I'll also take it a little further and add that I sometimes check out the threads in the A,H&S Group. Wow - what a differing viewpoint! It never occurred to me that you'd have companies in the US predominantly Christian based, but not in a Christian field (such as Missions for example) and therefore having things in the workplace such as prayer groups. No way would that happen here!

Wouldn't a Rabbi and/or Cantor be considered a non-Christian occupation? Or an Elder or Priest in religions that aren't Christian?

I also think a non-Christian job would require a person to break at least one commandment as a requirement. Lying, fraud, promoting immorality etc... .

I would say those are not jobs ANYONE should do. Morals are not a Christian trademark. But for thread topic purposes I would say yes, that would be the average, "I'm better than everyone else" Christian response to the question. Excuse the hostility towards Christians, I just had a bad experience with a so-called "Christian". See new thread for details.

What I'm, wondering, is why someone might take a job the might require them to do something against their beliefs in the first place.

There have been stories about Christian pharmacists that refuse to fill birth control perscriptions. I mean, they had to know this going into this career, right? Unless they did it on purpose, to make a statement, and try to push their version of morality on others, and create a stir.

If a person owned their own business, they could do what they wanted, but if a person like this worked for me, I would be very upset that they weren't doing the job they signed up for, and would take action against such a person.

It's also wrong from the standpoint of "knowing" why a person might need a perscription...birth control could be perscribed to either single or married women, if it makes a difference, and can be perscribed for hormonal reasons, not just birth control. Would such a person also refuse to fill a perscription for antibiotics, because a person might have an STD, instead of strep?
