I think the best visit I ever got from a group going door-to-door was about 20 years ago, when there was a new Bible church being built in the neighborhood where I lived at the time. When I answered the door, the pastor said, "I'm Rev. X, this is Mr. Y, and we're from XYZ Bible church....we're not going to take any of your time and we're not asking for any donations, we just want you to know we're in the neighborhood if you need us and here's a flyer with a list of our activities and service times. Have a blessed afternoon. Goodbye". They were off the porch in under 30 seconds. I thought it was well done, and had I been searching for a church at the time, I'd have probably gone to visit!

Long ago they would come through our neighborhood on Saturday mornings and my ex-husband would let them in the house. When they'd quote something from the bible, he'd say "Really? That's not how I remember it." and get out our bible and read a different version to them.
My grandfather would invite them in, pull out multiple versions of the Bible in Hebrew, Greek, and French and prove to them that their version was wrong

I felt sorry for the 2 Mormon guys wandering the neighborhood, (it was wicked hot out) so I listened to the pitch, gave them a drink, and sent them on their way.

Thank you for refreshing the Lord's Servants. I'm sure you will be blessed for it. Too bad you didn't listen with your heart. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. and the Lord loves us all equally.

I had a couple of ladies show up at my door (Jehovah's Witnesses). They asked me what I knew about God. I told them what I believe. We had a nice visit on my front porch for about 15 minutes. They left, and they never came back. I guess they were satisfied with my answers or figured I was secure enough in my beliefs about God that I wasn't going to join their church.??? I don't know. They were very polite and friendly. I enjoyed the visit.

A much more Christian way to handle the situation than slamming the door in their faces....

Just got back from our conference in New York,,and I wanted to check round and read up a bit! )

Here is another story regarding other denominations' missionaries and such..

About twenty years ago I was attending a three week training class in Norwich NY. It was winter, snow on the ground, and nearly all of us were passing round a bodacious cough. My assigned room-mate however had influenza. She was sick all night, wretched and feverish. I actually begged her to go home.

She smiled and declined, stating she had 'friends' in the area and she could call on them to help her if need be. Worried, I left class at noon anyway to bring her hot soup and check upon her condition. When I returned to our room, I was surprised to see her propped up, looking quite comfortable, with a large thermos of chicken soup and another of hot chamomile tea at her night table. She even had prescriptions at hand. Seeing my reaction, she explained that her 'friends' were simply fellow members of Seventh Day Adventists, and all she did was find the local group and they came over- including a physician member to treat her!

I am still impressed.
