That sense of joy isn't supposed to leave us (meaning joy, not necessarily happiness, here - I see them as separate although often overlapping).
Hi graceventually. BTW, I love your screename.

Yes, I know what you mean. Joy and happiness are different and similar (both bring a smile to the face). I think of happiness as an emotion..something we feel or don't feel.

Joy is so much harder to define. I describe it as an abiding and sustaining state of contentment, confidence and peace...something we draw strength (and a smile) from even when we are not feeling happy. Even when we are faced with the most awful of circumstances. It comes from an understanding of the goodness, faithfulness, awesomness, loving-kindness, patience, gentleness and Sovereignty of God. (He is just so good I could go on and on about Him to the point of being obnoxious, so I'll stop there. )

One of my favorite passages (something Paul wrote, I Corin. 7:4) "...with all our tribulation and in spite of it, I am filled with comfort. I am overflowing with joy" and also Nehemiah 8:10 "And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold."

Hope you have a blessed day!!

And Nike taught me to "Just Do It."

Same message, really.
Love it!!!

That's it exactly, wonderwoman! Stop worrying, fretting, whining, making excuses, etc. and "Just Do It!"

(God can and does speak through many things. Even a Nike ad!! )

I believe that God wants to give us the desires of our hearts, as long as they are in line with His will. I spent a lot of time in my past wishing for things that I don't think God wanted for me. Today I've matured enough to only want what He wants for me. The other road is too painful.

perhaps the reason religion is more successful with the poorest and least educated because those are the people living closet to raw reality.

no condom factories nearby and no roads to truck 'em in? then keep your knees together...

The short answer is no. God does not give you anything. You given to him! You must live with wht you have. End of lesson.

"Prayer is not a way of making use of God; prayer is a way of offering ourselves to God in order that He should be able to make use of us. It may be that one of our great faults in prayer is that we talk too much and listen too little. When prayer is at its highest we wait in silence for God's voice to us; we linger in His presence for His peace and His power to flow over us and around us; we lean back in His everlasting arms and feel the serenity of perfect security in Him."
