I have noticed that lots of these religion message boards tend to be dominated by three groups of people; Chirstians, Atheists & spiritual not religious. Now well, I have no problem with any of these people, this is a shout-out to the rest.

What are the basic rulesof your faith?

Have you always been or did you find this religion?

If you found your faith later in life what brought you to it?

If you have always been, why?

I am saying this because I know personally that sometimes it is very hard to believe differently, even in this country with so called "religious freedom." However, faith in something (even just one's self) is a powerful tool for overcoming life's issues.

I'm a happily practicing Wiccan. Wicca has one major rule: harm none. There are no specific texts to read, no specific churches to go to. It's very liberating to know that whichever way you chose to honour the Gods and Goddesses is respected as a sign of our inherent individuality. I actually discovered Wicca in a newpaper article and have never looked back. The major principles of my faith were compatible with my way of life when I came to the path, so it wasn't so much a conversion as putting a name to what I already knew in my heart.

1. Basic rules of faith:
*The belief in the oneness of God
* Belief in the angels, which are God's creation
* Belief in His books(Torah,Psalms,Gospel, and the Qur'an)
*Belief in His prophets and that Mohamed (SAW) is the seal of the prophets.
*Belief in the day of judgment
*Belief in divine predestination, be it good or bad and that there is a life after death.
***The five pillars:
*To declare that there is none worthy of worship except God and Mohamed (SAW) is the messenger of God.
* to pray 5 times a day
* yearly alms giving
* to fast during Ramadan
* to make pilgrimage to Makkah
2. More like it found me...too long of a story but trust me it has a happy ending : ) I learned the spirit of Islam first through befriending and spending time with members of the Muslim student association of the university I attended. We shared more of the same values and goals in life than the people of my original faith...it was a natural spiritual progression for me to the point that people have made the comment that I did not seem like a person who had just put on the hijab(headscarf) but a person who had been wearing it all her life.

I think both of your faiths are wonderful . By birth I'm Ukrainian Catholic, it's sort of a cross between Roman Catholic and Orthodox. I have always believed in God and I believe that there are many paths to get to the same place. My religion is more a part of my ancestral identity, I am not a committed practitionar. I'm very curious about other faiths. I think all religions have something beautiful about them, and it's all about finding one that suits. I've yet to do so, but I hope in the future to further explore my spiritual side.

Kudos to BDanya and Pr_Princess for doing so !

Even though I've been raised (and indoctrinated) with a Christian background, I have an appreciation for the Buddhist view on sexuality, and I often believe that it is more realistic than the Christian appraoch. Basically, the Buddhist position contends that our desires and attachments (including sexual desire), produce suffering and discontent.

But basically, the Christian attitude is that sexual temptation is all around, and the real issue is resistance. I once attended a Christian concert where the artist basically said: "Now guys, I know it's hard, but you have to resist." However, such a disposition is often unrealistic. And unless you're a Rock star, you could not go out and get laid anytime you want, and therefore you have to merely "resist sexual temptation." But realistically, most of time, the average person is dealing with sexual frustrations and desires that lead to discontentment and "suffering." And not "fleeing" from some voluptuous blonde who is throwing their body at you, that usually only happens on Cinemax.

hmmm, I come from a christian background but I learned to embrace my sexuality in a very loving (premarital) relationship. I'm not with that person and I believe that sex belongs in a commited realtionship. However I don't think sexual desire with no sex will equal sexual frustration. I guess I try to take a page from Indain writings about Tantra and the kama sutra. I don't think sexual desire should be denied or repressed it should be embraced and explored. Even if you are doing so alone, (and that can be without masturbation...maybe try yoga, breathing excersices, enjoying a hot bath or the taste of perfectly ripe fruit)

Marriage is strongly encouraged in my faith because of the fact that one cannot deny such a basic need so imams (equivalent to priest/pastor in other faiths) are more than likely married with children of their own. There is no conflict of interest and they can relate to many of the common issues of their parishioners. Members of the community can be at times a little too zealous about helping to find mates : ) but they mean well. I agree with you passerine that there are other things in life that help dissipate "stored" energy. Us singles are prescribed to fast and in this way it helps to diminish this energy and makes us more open to the plight of others who frequently have to live without the basic necessities of life. I would also add to your list furthering one's education...there is so much to learn from the natural world that we live in : )

I forgot about that! When I go to my universities book store I always feel so energized because I'm surrounded by all these things that I have yet to learn about. Although I have to pace my self, the "to read shelf" in my bedroom is already full to the brim...the Koran is one of the books waiting there .

BDanya,

Hello : ) I am a Wiccan too, although when I first signed up I checked Christian because at the time that was accurate. I still believe in the Christian God, although I pray to others as well. It's nice to find another Wiccan on here. I wish it were given as a checklist option. Do you put it in your profile? I have not.

Willow,

Actually you can download it for free via the internet but there are also the Hadith which are documentations regarding the real life examples of the Prophet (SAW) and his rulings on situations that were brought before him. Collected by several respected scholars. It is both that guide Muslims. A lot gets lost in translation. It is a book that does not change...the Arabic portion that is. There are many different English translations. I can suggest some sites I particularly like privately but I would rather not post here. I have had a problem with EH closing my account on accident in the recent past and would rather not give them cause to close it for a breech in policy.
