Okay...I know I don't post here much anymore...but just needed to a place to vent my frustrations.

I never wanted the Health Care Reform bill to pass... not happy that it did...hoping it falls apart in concession talks...and am considering leaving this great country and moving to a remote place like maybe Greenland if it does finally pass.

We can all start a "Leave America" movement!

Anyone wanna come with me?

Disclaimer: If anyone can talk me through this health care reform bill and explain who will pay and how it will be paid, I would feel so much better...explain it to me like I'm a 5th grader please!

I will respond at work but short and simple...if you as a single filer make more than 200k or a joint return making more than 250k you will pay more. Also if you have really good insurance plan the insurance company will be taxed which means your rates will go up. If you do not have insurance currently you will be required to have insurance or you will pay a penalty for being uninsured. I have no idea how they are going to enforce that. Those are the direct costs.

There are questions about healthy young people not enrolling in insurance knowing that they have to be allowed insurance at anytime. (no preexisting illness exclustion) An annual visit (or two) and the penalty would be cheaper than getting insurance. So a young healthy male finds out he has cancer, he knows he is guaranteed insurance. So the only risk by being uninsured is an accident or very sudden onset illness. Taking the lower risk out of the pool means everyones rates will go up.

I do believe everyone should have access to health insurance but I do not believe this is a good answer for various reasons.

Thanx tj........I am an educator and read every single page of NCLB, but trying to decipher the 22,000 pages of the Health Care Reform bill was daunting for me.

I just needed to see it explained in 'real' terms.

I do believe that everyone should have healthcare, but the pundits and politicians all seem to be whitewashing how it will be paid for, anf how the bill will effect my excellent health plan.

Having a "hmmmmmmm" moment.....

If you want to PM me your email I can send you a 5 page pdf done by CCH which explains the bill. I think it is pretty plain English.

No wonder I haven't seen you for awhile! I've been wondering what happened to you.....

girlFriend.....please.....I am not moving to Greenland! I mean.....isn't it cold up there? And don't they have snow?

Bad enough we got snow on the golf course for three days in December; it upset me so much I did a whole thread on it!

So let's not have any more talk about Greenland!

Legend, I'm with you 110% !

Aren't there something like 38 states that are drafting the paperwork right now to SUE the Federal gov't? It's a direct response of this Health Care bill.

My current status line is.... Is Progress the opposite of Congress? Yes siree !!!

I am all for single-payer healthcare. There is an organization called Mad as Hell Doctors that I follow. My own mother is a doctor and I know firsthand how insurance companies give everyone the shaft. My mom sends me every article she can to dissuade me from my views and also I am unpopular in church discussions (some even have called me a socialist) but I need to be frank, something has to change when people are dx'd with a pre-existing condition for having a bladder infection...or taking anti-depressants when their father died (2 real cases).

Insurance companies are for-profit. We don't have our police force for profit or fire dept. ... why do we do this to healthcare?

The stocks of many hospitals and pharmacy companies went up yesterday. There is simply now more money for them in peoples' eyes.

Change hurts and probably many things will go wrong as human beings are sinful creatures. But I will keep praying for the poor to have healthcare. I feel like a rich person ignoring the poor when so many do not have healthcare and must wait to go to the ER for any treatment as they can not afford preventative care.

Blessings.

Hate to be a wet blanket, legend, but chances are most places you would choose to go have national health care programs. Including Greenland.

Good point lol!

The legislation itself, well it means well. The result - it comes down to how it is enforced, and how the provisions of it shake out IRL.

It is going to be a long while before anyone is really sure how this will evolve IMHO and there will be some interesting legal challenges along the way - they have already started I think.

I am Canadian, and we have national health care here, not to say it is perfect, but the basics are there for everyone such as they are. That being said, there are problems here too. (Even though we have national health care, a lot of employers do provide private plans that are "over and above" the standard, such as dental, prescription and extended health care)

What's going to happen to your benefits - well there is no way to tell from reading the legislation - you have to wait until is is put into practice.... but I am reasonably sure that if there is a way to interpret this that will raise rates most of the corporations will do it......

This will be interesting to follow - and remember there is an old Chinese curse which reads something like "May you live in interesting times"

Hopefully this will not be another blow to an already struggling lower middle class..... if there are any of them left.

JMHO

CC is correct. Our country is the last beacon of liberty. Unfortunately the light is fading.
