Some of my best material is coming from the USPS today. I love making my coworkers laugh. Just a little HR service.

So they are considering stopping Saturday service. First I find it really funny and somewhat telling that this takes an act of Congress. *shakes head* Now the reasons this is being fought, oh god I need to stop laughing cause this really isn't funny. "Any changes to employee work schedules, which would result from eliminating Saturday delivery, need to be negotiated with postal workers' unions."-Labor Unions
"We really need more information. Almost all of direct marketing is done when it's relevant and timely. If it reaches you three days later, it's not timely," said Linda Woolley, chief lobbyist for the Direct Marketers Association.

Yup, labor unions and the people who send us the junk mail. I really never noticed I throw more junk mail in the trash on Saturday on my way into my home than Monday -Friday. To me that is just one more reason to get rid of Saturday deliveries.

Now last night my local news station was interviewing someone from the USPS who said they believe that the decline is due to lack of convience so they are considering opening up more locations. Um, far be it from me to point out the obvious but you walk it to the end of your driveway or stick it in a hole in your house or apt. exactly how will opening more locations make that more convient?

More than that you can go online (which should be the first clue to them why the amount of mail is declining) to their website and order stamps, shipping boxes (would you believe online has all the sizes as opposed to the physical post office who usually only has the small boxes), postage for said shipping boxes, and have it all sent to that mail box I described in the previous paragraph. Pretty convient isn't it?

When you consider in 2009 the post office ran with a 32.18 billion dollar deficit wouldn't it be best if they start closing post offices. Why exactly must we have one per zip code anyway? Yes I know some rural areas do not but lord we have them all over the place here.

Ya know considering I do all my bills and such online I would be happy without home delivery altogether. Hey, then I could get rid of that stupid mailbox and not have to drag the weed wacker down there.

Let's see......

They have a government-granted monopoly

They can raise rates at will

They don't pay income tax

They don't pay property tax

They don't pay fuel or highway use taxes

They don't have to pay registration on their vehicles.

Only the government could manage to lose money on a deal like that.

Give UPS that deal and my stock would quadruple.
