Wait, originally you brought up that a single company raised their profits by 250 percent. He explained that said single company raised their membership by 250 percent by expanding in different states or acquiring other companies (which is perfectly legal). Now you are saying the entire health insurance industry. So which is it?

Now I am not really "for" or "against" this bill. The only thing I don't like is a government basically focing my hand on having insurance or not (by imposing a "fine" on me if I choose not to have insurance, essentially taking freedom away from me). I haven't checked his facts, but they certainly make sense if they are true. You changed your argument, making his "facts" invalid.

"Hey, look, a woman"??!! I must have missed that in his reply. While I did catch condescending tone in his reply, I certainly didn't catch any sexist tone to it.
From what I have heard, the fine is very small. It can be argued that the fine is simply a charge for catastrophic care that is already provided to all people living here.

I don't have a problem with everyone paying for a service that they already recieve. It isn't very civilized to not supply aid for people in case of a disaster.

Even those healthy young people could have a major health crisis. They may have opted out of health coverage but would still be treated. Why is it a good idea to allow someone to take a chance like that when everyone else will actually pay for the care if he/she can't?

They are basicly gambling with other people's money. Not a bad deal really.

Shedeville ... I apologize for the condescending start to the last comment ... I responded with what I viewed as a like-wise response to a condescending statement from you ...Which was not right on my part ...

As far as the substance goes, dwreese summed it up pretty well as to what my response would be.

Or at least have the good sense and common decency not to try to condescend to someone (hey, look, a woman) when either you don't have a clue or you know full well what you are doing and you are spinning desperately in the hope that no one will notice what that is: that you're being less than, uh, forthright.
Didn't even know you were a woman until you mentioned it and I looked at your profile at it said female ... And still don't care ... And the rest I will ignore.

Well I don't agree that it is "not a bad deal". I don't believe that anyone should be forced to purchase anything or support any business against their will.

Just my thoughts, something we will probably never agree on. I will exercise my right to vote for people who don't support this bill, encourage any company to lobby hard against it and try to spread economic freedom, not social programs. You may do the same. You better believe though, that if this gets passed, I will abuse this system by going to the ER for any little sniffle that pops up and get every possible hand out I can get. I will get the biggest bang for my buck that is possible. Just as I draw unemployment and food stamps between contracts, even if I have 100k saved up.

Going to the ER would cost you more than it would to go to the Dr. or even a walk-in clinic. You can pay more for every sniffle if you'd like.

I'll stand behind those that fight for consumer protections any day. Thank you Kathleen Sebelius. Great work for the middle class.
