I would say that it means what it says, all men are created equal. Doesn't say anything about them staying that way =).

And we all know women aren't our equals...*ducks*

Kidding, kidding!

In all seriousness my interpretation is that this was written as a criticism of monarchy in general (considering it was written to a king) by saying that the men of the colonies were not born as lesser men than the king and that he had no right to abuse them because he was born better than them. I don't believe Jefferson or any of them meant that all people should have the same amount of stuff.

I don't know if you're going for the Animal Farm "All animals are equal, just some are more equal than others" idea or what but I sincerely doubt they meant all people are the same. That's just silly. In my humble opinion .

historicaly you are right on the nose. But it goies deeper. It has to do with a ranking system that you and I know well and noon milatary less so. Fudial system was simply a milatary system applyed to a civelian population. When the King went to war he called on the peers, the holders of the shires, dukes, his genrials. They called up the jouiner officers, gentlmen, knights and squiers. any one else were connan fodder. so the origonal statment is a put down for the whole system. so in that sence we are equile in that we are the same rank. You are, therefore, my peer weathe you like it or not.
If we talk about the quility of carater that is some thing else and can be verry subjective.

Ever heard of spellcheck ? Sorry, but it's impossible to take you seriously when you can't use any grammar or even spell simple words.

yes I have heard about spell check. I have not figured out how it works here. it is a resuls of a bad desion that I made in graid school. Now I have one for you ab hominem. it is using a logic that attacts your opponit and not his argument. Are you saying that my opinions are less valid becuse I can't spell? (they are harder to express)do you think you out rank me becuse I can't spell? That would be like concluding that every on in aminal rescue is a Hundo, or people from GA are redneck raceist, not worthy of my time or trubble to give them a heaing. It is a low trick to acvoid the issue, the evolutionist use it to davoid questions into the validy of there sicence, as do the the Globle worming people, polations use it to get elected (is is called mud slinging or a smear campaine). If you wis to make a statment about the topic It will be welcome, but if you wish to attact me do it on my profile.
For your learning, there were 250 "gentlman " who landec at James town. In 1600 a gentlman was a kight or squire who lorded it over there manors. These 250 men (there no woman) put John Smith in chains for being uppity. 20 years later a group of people settlen in Mass. who were sick and tired of being throwen in jail by the Gentry. This is the root couse of the Civle War. Your side lost, are you willing to join the rest of the country or do you want keep it divided?

I don't think they were attempting to negate the validity of your argument by attacking you so much as give you advice so that your argument can stand on merit instead of being ignored simply because you can't spell.

Online the only way the viewer of material has to judge the credibility is by grammar and spelling. In person you may be an intellectual but you come across as uneducated simply because you refuse to use a simple tool. A shame really since your arguments appear to have merit worthy of debate.

what is the purpous of your post? The man is a firefighter, he may have been having a bad day and did not feel like waiding thrue my bad spelling, cant realy fult him for that. I felt that he was using my bad spelling to advoid the issue. To prsume that we know what is going thrue a persons mind at any given time is foolish and not relevent to the descussion. If you feel that my issues are worthy of debate, then debate them. there is a lot wrong with this country and many we could fix if we debated the issue honestly. Otherwise why post on the bord? so what do you think it means "all men are created equile"? Mr J feels that it was a slam aganst the King of England. I agreed and extended to include the whole system that was in voge at that time. I pointed out to Mr H that the people who settled in the south liked that system and wanted to copy it here. The people who settled in Plymoth, Mass had been ill treated by the same class of people who settled James Town. Now do you have any thoughts that you would like to share on that?

This is just my feelings but I believe the idea that all men are created equal means that all people under the system have an equal chance of being successful. At the time in England you had no chance of acquiring wealth despite hard work, intelligence, or any other inborn attributes. Like being able to spell.

I agree with the lady above (name is too long ), but everyone has the same opportunity for success within their own socioeconimic structure. Since the OP brought up the point of the feudal system, I have to say that equality under those standards has to deal with God. All men are created equal in God's eyes, but kings thought that they were ordained by God, and hence better. So, the founding fathers made it a point to include this line in the Declaration of Indenpendence so that no one would get a big head.
