I take it this lack of response means "no".

It still seems like a formality there.

That must be an extremely nerve-wracking thing for someone to deal with. Sitting through either the barrage of compliments or the criticisms for days on end.

The Ricci case is being harped on but is really not a big case. It is pretty arbitrary for such a case to even be brought to the national stage. Those types of lawsuits happen with the large majority of government exams. Affirmative Action just so happens to be one of the things that are hot lately.

I am not looking forward to the constant media harping on this but it is what it is.

It seems that a lot of the media attention today was on the "wise Latina" remark. I always thought the remark was poorly worded, and I wasn't at all surprised that it came up. I thought Lindsay Graham made a fair point when he said that he could not say something similar. She said she understood that, and I do, too. But when they went on about for so long, I started to feel like "geez....a 17-year record, and this one statement from 2001 is what is going to take so much of the time and focus here?"

I don't know what is common for judges on her level but she has had 3 rulings overturned by the Supreme Court. That does not sound like a lot but I am not sure how past justices fared in that regard.

I did think that it was funny when Hannity got called on attempting to misinform about her record by a caller. He made a statement that may have been accurate but was an obvious attempt to mislead. He had stated that the S. C. disagreed with her at 9-0. They all had issues with a certain statement in her judgement but the overall judgement was 5-4. Hannity is not stupid & realizes that his 9-0 statement will be misunderstood by some of his listeners. It has a much greater effect than a 5-4 disagreement would.

The caller told him that he had recently lost credibility with her & I agree with that. He has made the statment multiple times that he is crying about certain things with his reasoning being that the left would never let such a thing go. That reasoning does not work with folks that did let such things go when they occured under Repub. administrations. That is the reasoning that a baby would use. "But they did it first".

Others are harping on the "wise Latina" comments because that is all that they have.

I rarely watch television, so just dig around on the Internet at night.

Found an amusing one tonight.

i caught some of it on the radio. she seemed to use a lot of unreferenced pronouns while speaking. i think that detracted a smidgen from her presentation. but overall, the gist came through and i think she conveyed a good sensibility.

sessions came off as a moron to me. he seemed unable to comprehend that legal cases examine specific questions. that saying no to apple pie before dinner, so to speak, does not say anything about the badness or goodness of fruit pies -- or even apple pie -- in general.

I didn't think she came across as racist at all, nor is there any evidence of that in her rulings -nor any evidence at all beyond that one remark.
You want racist, go look at the sorry sack of nothing that passes for the new head of the Young Republicans. But I digress.

I agree with the above comment about Sessions, lil_lamb - and your apple pie analogy was excellent!

I saw a little of it. I believe she presented herself well. I was prepared to dislike her because of certain things she has said in the past. But I would vote to confirm. As if there's any doubt to the outcome, anyway...

However, I really was sorry to see your "racist, sorry sack of nothing, Young Republicans" statement. I've been to your profile page, know you are clergy. And I do remember in one of your posts you were very supportive of me when I needed it.

I just don't think your statement reflects to your credit. Even if you do follow politics. I was disappointed.
