What the heck was Robin Hood?

I mean, we always hear, "Rob from the rich, give to the poor," which implies Dem.

But he didn't do that. ~He~ was rich. ~He~ was noble. The government stole his wealth via force and taxes, and then chased him into hiding.

Robin the Hood then more accurately, "Robbed from the government, and gave back to the people." Which implies Rep.

He used force, which also implies Rep.

But then he gave the money not to those who worked for it, but to those who either could not or would not earn their own money. He gave nothing back to the Medieval Middle Class, nor to his fellow nobles. Which implies Dem.

Then he turned around and opposed taxation. Which implies Rep.

Not sure if Libertarian would fit him. Maybe. I mean, he was trying to topple the government, wreaking total chaos out in Sherwood Forest. He wasn't trying to establish a new government at all -- he just wanted the current government to leave him alone.

Socialist? Was he just, "Redistributing the wealth?"

IMO it depends on the context; shoehorning it into modern socio-political terms, the myth exists somewhere between socialist and anarchist; that need (not property) is the source of rights and that the ends justify the any and all means.
