Since I've been here (Afghanistan for those of you that were unaware) I've noticed a few "Coalition" troops here that I was kinda surprised to see. Egypt, Jordan and UAE are the three that really caught me off guard. The Afghan Government is not very welcoming to these three particular countries (and I can't say that I blame them too much). I am only aware of the mission of the UAE; it has something to do with the upcoming elections. Why they have interest in this is beyond me, although I could speculate.

I am curious as to why Jordan is here, and why the US has allowed them to occupy this country. I recall some friction with Jordan during the start of the Iraq war, something about the airspace or not allowing the US to use air bases...something like that.

I believe I understand the presence of Egypt. They have been in a compitition, so to speak, with Saudi Arabia for some time now to be considered the Arab/Muslim "lead" of the world. (and yes I am aware there is a difference between Arab and Muslim.)

All that being said, I would like to add that the UAE Special Forces, a currently a customer of mine (I instal/repair a particular Electronic Counter Measure system on their vehicles), are by FAR the most polite and welcoming people I have ever met. Several of them have already asked me to come visit Dubia and offered me a place to stay. They refuse to let you go more than 2 hours without eating and the work hours they permit are well.....minimal to say the least. It is hard to get any work done around them though lol.

But anways, if anyone has any thoughts/information on the first couple paragraphs then feel free to share and comment.

I don't know if that counts as "friction". There was a lot of opposition to our assault and use of other nations' space ... even Turkey refused to allow the 4th ID to off-load at port and establish a full 2nd front to the North, forcing us to rely on paratroopers early on and delaying the entrance of a 2nd heavy division into the conflict for like a month (as they shuffled around and setup to join the fight from Kuwait).

Which some speculate as being the reason our combat forces were stretched too thin in the early stages, exposing supply lines and putting support forces at risk ... I'd agree with them.

Put aside domestic and international politics, and I’d guess intelligence.

I didn't know UAE had troops either. My understanding is that it is only their special forces (they roll out with US special forces.
I would consider it friction0but that's just me. Doesn't really matter, just curious as to why they were here.
