Sorry ... I was not comenting on his ideas ... I was simply responding to the post that ridiculed Palin as having no experience and in the same breath defended Obama's record on the subject.

I have no qualms admitting that Palin and Obama would be very green around the ears (I think that's the phrase) when it comes to anything on the national level.

To put it in terms I can visualize ...

Palin ran a mid-sized insurance agency (and ran a very small agency prior to that) and was running for the VP spot for Blue Cross Blue Shield...

Obama had been an associate (or member of the board, sectretary equaivalent, I can't think of what relation a senator would have in the business world) for 2 years (and had been on the board/associate et all for a few years on a mid-sid-sized agency before then) and was proposing to run Blue Cross Blue Shield.

If I was on the board for Blue Cross Blue Shield, I'd be nixing them both ... They both need to get their feet wet a bit more before their resumes would ever make it to my desk in the first place.
'sokay, I took no offense.

fyi: When trying to get your opinion across, it's probably best to put it into terms they can visualize

Glad to hear no offense was taken ...

Well, in theory putting it in terms others could visualize might work better ... But then I'd have to put a good deal more thought to use a framework that is easily understandable to all ... Instead, I can put it in a framework I can understand easily, so at least I know what I wrote

I hope she has a better reason for quitting her elected position than was stated.

I have to say I am a little disappointed by Sarah not finishing her term as governor. I do not buy the excuse that it is because she is not running for re-election. If that was true, then no one that is ineligible or not planning on running next time should finish their terms.

I should also state that I don't agree with anyone running for another office while they need to serve their current office. If they are spending a significant amount of time campaigning then they are not fulfilling their duties properly but I guess that is the norm and it is accepted behaviour. I don't get it - but what do I know.

My guess is Sarah is getting out because 1) the cost of fighting these bogus ethic inquiries is really mounting up and the bogus charges will just keep coming if she continues as Governor and 2) I believe that she does have an eye on something else and does not want the only thing going on by the time she does make her move to be the bad press from the VP slot and the ethic inquiries.

I hope to see her out making speeches and campaigning for others. And I would like to see her take a congressional seat for Alaska in 2010 and then bigger and better things.

I like Sarah. I agree with Sarah. Sarah re-energized me this last year and I hope this is not that last of her.

Reading through this thread, I do find it funny how people are eager to see her fail - there is almost a certain glee to it. And in my book, that just means she is doing something right!

Think what you want - but Sarah has pull. She is charismatic and is a star for the Republican party. I would love to Mitt and Sarah on a ticket - and I really wish that is who was on the ticket for 08 - but then again, no one consults with me about these things.

I think she's lost a lot of that pull. She has handed her political enemies their weapons. If Romney, Huckabee, et al., run against her in 2012, they'll be saying "When I finished my term as governor...". I can hear it now. This will come back and haunt her, again and again.
If she had come out and said, "I've been praying about this and I no longer think that this position is in my family's best interest", I would completely respect that. But she didn't; she just dropped hints about wanting to have a bigger impact in other ways. That sounds as though she's running, but I can't think that this quitter reputation helps her cause at all.

Neocons you are finished. If you don't want Barackie back in there in 2012 you better find a new way of thinking and fast. How about embracing real conservative principles. Romney, Huckabee, Palin, Jindal, etc, etc, have no chance. They are done and washed up.

National stage?!? A state senator for 7 years, gives experience, but not for the presidential/national level ... He was a US senator for ~2 years before making his run for the presidency ... You don't get much more national than serving as a Senator/Representative or as the Governor of a major state ... that is unless you want us to elect out of pool composed of entertainers: professional wrestlers, actors, musicians, television personalities. Obama chose to run and was nominated by his party.

In contrast, Palin would have remained in near complete obscurity had she not been plucked by the Republican party desperate to appease the religious portion of their base.

Again, unless I see otherwise I'm willing to take Palin at her word on this. She felt all the investigations and attacks were hurting the state and costing it money unnecessarily, and it was putting her family through too much. She could still turn around and run against Lisa Murkowski in a Republican primary in 2010 for her senate seat because she could differentiate the pressures of being a Senator versus that of being Governor.

However....if she tried to run for President in 2012 then her reasoning would ring hollow because it makes no sense to take yourself out of the pressures of being a Governor and then say you're now ready to be President. I do think she could have a future as a Presidential candidate, but ONLY after at least 10 years in the Senate where she could erase the bad taste this leaves in some of her supporter's mouths, and as time goes by she'll be able to write a new narrative. She could champion some issues in the Senate over the years and become known for that. Also I'll say that this most likely takes her out of consideration for being a VP nominee in 2012 as well.

I like Sarah Palin, and I wish her the best. I would have liked to see her at least finish out her term, but as I said at the beginning I'll take her at her word.

I've heard a more reasonable argument come out of a horse's rear.
