Every morning I wake up with the surreal mind crime that I'm a nameless character in any one of a number of early/mid 20th century dystopian novels - Anthem, 1984, A Brave New World, etc.

It is simply, plainly and literally unbelievable.
Unbeleivable yet predictable, the cycle continues...from slavery to revolution.....from revolution to prosperity......from prosperity to laziness and complacency......from laziness and complacency to slavery once again.

Ha! Ha! I was just having a conversation about this with a broker and a client - the funny thing about the fine is that this is an annual fine per employee for the employer. Silly lawmakers - the fine is a whole heck cheaper than paying for health coverage - so I'll take the fine, please.

The senate and congress really have no clue what they are doing.

And just something to think about - out of the 45 million of uninsureds...

1) the 45 million is not citizens that are uninsured just people in the US

2) 15 million of the 45 million are actually eligible for state health plans but have not completed the paperwork (And this was before Obama expanded the S-CHIP programs).

3) And another 15 million of the 45 million are individuals making over 50 k a year that choose not to have coverage whether through their group health plan or through an individual plan.

So 15 million are too lazy, 15 million don't care, and the other 15 million are not citizens or just S.O.L. I honestly would have thought there would have been more than 15 million of the lazy ones. LoL

Where'd you get these numbers?

The numbers I provided are from a speaker at a conference I attended in September 08. The speaker is a subrogation attorney and these were the numbers that he had. He was going to be speaking to Congress since Congress was looking at passing anti-subrogation laws and these were the numbers that he would be using when presenting to Congress. There is already one state (I believe Rhode Island) that has passed such a law.

So I pulled my notes from the conference since the numbers I provided were from memory. Here are the correct numbers he provided (I was close!!! lol).

47 million uninsured (9 million of them are children)

38% make over 50k (17.86 million)

30% are eligible for medicaid (state insurance) but have not applied (14.10 million)

10 million of the 47 million are illegal aliens

Note on Subrogation - Subrogation is the right for the plan to receive money from what was awarded due to a third-party liability. If you were in a car accident and your health plan paid for your medical expenses, then the health plan has the right to get the money back from your award for what they paid out once you have successfully sued another party. Seems right, just and reasonable - yes? But no, Congress would like to make it so the health plan pays your medical expenses and when you are awarded the medical expenses in your settlement, you don't need to pay back the health plan. Kind of like stealing - don't you think?? And then people wonder why healthcare costs so much!!! (think of that email that went around about how evil wal-mart is for taking money from that lady - 1) it was not wal-mart but their health plan and 2) it is their money!!!!)

Do not let the government run healthcare!!! You will be getting less and paying more!!!
