Problem A: When you post things of this nature, you sound as though you are hoping/wishing for them.

Problem B: For all your rants against "emotionalism" (at least on the occasions when you spell it correctly), you end up making wild statements like this that strain credulity. You sound far more emotional than the people you accuse of it.

There really is no point to continuing this discussion in this vein, and so I will cease to comment.

I said in the beginning that teaching children the connection between work and living was a good thing, then here you come with all of your ranting about how evil i am,and how i didn't apologize, how i want to see dead children on and on,then a child,a liitle boy, shows up and starts giving me the business....the bottom line is this...there are going to be lots of hungry children in this country if we do not go back to what made us a great and prosperous nation, and like i told Beaver Clever these children will not have the future or enjoy the country that we did...now you can emote about that all you like and it will change nothing....and one more thing...sending someone private messages ridiculing them and then saying you will report them for their reaction is about as stupid and immature as it gets.

This has kinda went off topic eh? Whole lotta bashing going on.

I think that lady in the article is really out of touch. Poverty CAN be a very hard cycle to break. She has lived the good life a little too long. Yes, it is important to teach children that it takes a job to acquire money to eat. Yes, there are people in the "system" that are abusing it and are completely capable or working. We need to try to identify those people and kick them off the free ride. I believe that some states are actually trying to do this. (I believe my home state of Indiana is actually TRYING, desperately, to force people to work.). However, we should NOT allow these people to ruin it for the folks that ACTUALLY do need the assistance. Just my 2 cents.

I feel ya dog. My bad-I felt like playing internet police. Having a badge and all-heck some women like a guy wearing a uniform Hey telling the truth online is a dangerous business. People today tend to want to hear about the latest sales, supersized food order and idol/reality show.

Oh cripes I missed my reality show last night- "Tensions at the Online Dating Website."
Have a cool fourth of July!

I'm sorry guys but weren't we talking about children?! These are not people who are to be punished, they are the victims here. And yes, maybe their parents are abusing a system that is set up in a way that punishes those who try to work and rewards those that don't, maybe they were born into a family that believe that drugs and alcohol are more important than food. Either way these young people are the victims in this situation and there are a lot of other ways to curb government spending than taking away the only food some kids get. Let's try curbing the amount of money that politicians get for riding around in expensive cars and "entertaining" and generally squeezing the life out of this country.

Let's remove the politics of smear, shall we? The quote, in context:

Can’t they get a job during the summer by the time they are 16? Hunger can be a positive motivator.

Plainly, the subject is for 16 year olds. And yes, if a 16 year old is hungry, GO FIND A JOB.

All actions of the welfare state are immoral; free school meals or their summer proxies; the immorality of fostering dependence and disdain of those on the dole is only matched by the brute force confiscation of income to enable it.

The lawmaker is also correct that charity is the proper path to deal with the issue. Of course the left loathes religion and otherwise is deathly afraid of losing the immense control afforded by the welfare state, so that will always remain a non-starter.

Bored is the best way to describe it. Not much of a night life here in Afghanistan. Oh well, at least I get paid for it right?

Couldn't agree more. Why are people even thinking about taking this money away from the kids that NEED it. Lets look at all the BS that our government spends it's money on first.
