You're right, she didn't suggest that anyone should be allowed to starve, she flat-out said it. This soi disant "Christian" told hungry children to get a job or tough luck. Which is weird, because I could have sword Jesus wanted his followers to feed the hungry, not tell them to bugger off and get a job at McDonald's (which does NOT, by the way, give free food to their employees).

As for an "anti-business, socialist, radical environmentalist climate," I have no idea what world you're living in. It certainly isn't the real world. The situation we currently find the US in is because of the enthusiastically PRO-business, anti-community, anti-environment, anti-science, pro-ignorance policies of the last administration. While I can fault the Bush administration for a lot of ignorance, the fact is that the USA's ongoing political culture of pro-business, anti-community, and anti-environment policies has led to persistent poverty and third world conditions in places like Appalachia and rural Alabama and Georgia.

If you're seriously this upset because the government is stepping up to its responsibility to the hungry, if the only thing you get out of this is OMG HOW DARE ANYONE GET FREE STUFF then you have issues far and beyond being single.

"....the comparison however is typical of the crowd for whom poverty and misery is stock in trade and a means to an end...one day perhaps these pictures will be taken in America...perhaps of the very children of such people. "

What a horrible, horrible wish.

And as for emotionalism, if hungry children don't move one to do something for them, then something is seriously wrong.

It's nto a wish. Just cold hard reality. This country is bankrupt and it's only a matter of time.

He didn't say he was sorry about it, so it sounded like a wish. There was no dread or sorrow expressed.

And the reality is that we have too many hungry (not starving, but malnourished) children in the USA already. Getting back to the topic, taking more meals away from them (which is what this poor excuse for a legislator wanted) will only make matters worse.

Why should he say sorry? He didn't bankrupt us. He's plenty upset by it, can't you tell by his posts?

If they are of legal age there is nothing wrong with teaching them to work.

What i'm sorry about are people who have no understanding of anything other than feelings and emotion, you express absolutely no undertsnading of the economics of the situation...it's all so terrible so horrible,blah,blah,blah.......it will be lady......it will be in spades if some common sense and logic don't return to this nation's thought process....and furthermore i am 100% unapologetic about th fact that we have people in this country who want all of the poverty and misery they can get to further their own agenda of government dependence and control....poverty pimps is the best and most flattering thing they have ever been called

Compassion is a great thing, and we need more of it. Wanting to see children receive nourishment isn't just about feeling good about yourself by giving "free stuff". People who are starving are more likely to commit crimes. I'm not sure how it's expected that these children go and get jobs, when it is quite evident you don't even believe there are jobs available for adults. If you want to speak of reason, then use reason.

This reminds me of Daniel Hannan's speech to Gordon Brown.

No it hasn't.

She suggested that it was a positive to allow children to go hungry, which is moronic... not to mention unhealthy.

Bandmate wrote :

Letting children go hungry is a ridiculous and ineffective way to teach this.

You must not watch or read much news because there has been incessant reporting regarding lost jobs.
