This topic could easily go in the sports or politics section, but I decided to post it here because it gets more traffic.

James Harrison, the reigning defensive player of the year in the NFL, publicly declined an invitation to accompany his team (the Pittsburgh Steelers) in a visit to the White House to meet President Obama. He said (not a direct quote), "Ask us to come to the White House when we don't win the Super Bowl. I'm sure if the Arizona Cardinals had won the Super Bowl the President would have invited them instead." Harrison also did not go to the White House when the Steelers won the Super Bowl in 2006.

What are your thoughts on Harrison? If invited by the President to the White House, would you turn it down?

My only guess about Harrison is he's trying to make a silly statement that probably won't make sense to the rest of us. To me it's disrespectful to both the team and the President. It's become a tradition that the championship team (of the major pro sports and some college teams) are extended an invitation to the White House. Even though I'm not an Obama fan I would go, but then I'm just a humble working guy from South Jersey. Maybe the invitation doesn't have the appeal to spoiled millionaire babies that it does to me.

Well I'd go to the White House. To meet & shake Pres. Obama's hand, why not? I might not agree with certain policies but why give up this offer?*

As for Harrison I can't judge him. I don't know why or what's going thru his head. He's a fantastic player and I'm sure he has his reasons. The stated reason? Hmm I don't know.

Here's what I know about athletes,
at their peak conditioning before an event (like boxers, wrestlers and I guess some football players) they are highly tuned animals. Their nervous systems are revved up high...well some of them.

I might be wrong but I'm not going to judge him. Did ya see him in the superbowl! And he ran right thru Fitzgerald and Boldin (was that Boldin?)

I wonder if he even realizes that he has twice turned down what many people would love to do, even if only once? He doesn't seem to fully realize what he's done. My guess is that he will be surprised by the negative reaction that this has been getting.

He's a great football player. When we don't listen to our inner voices and go against our own personal values, we become lost. We stray away from our core values...going every which way the waves take us.

Away from our dreams... He's attained his goals by staying true to himself. I respect him for having principles. Even if I disagree with what he believes in.

Fitzgerald trying to stop a TANK! fer sure...

Most people think there are four seasons. To me there is only one -- football season. The rest of the year is just killin' time =)
