President Bush was called stupidfor 8 years by media and comics. I also remember VP Quayle being treated like a complete idiot as well. When you compare the gaffes Vice-President Biden has made they pale in comparison. His most recent gaffe is potentially divulging classified information. So how is it that Biden is still seen as this very intelligent man, or is it the double-standard of the media?

Jon Stewart will probably cover this one soon. But yeah, I'd say it falls into the category of double standard by the media.

I would say that his gaffes do get covered (otherwise, how else is it that we all know about them?). I think you have to look at the context of the times, though. These are especially serious days with the country facing a lot of very big problems. So, it seems less appropriate to spend a lot of time focusing on his gaffes when there are such bigger issues at hand. I think the same thing happened with Bush. There was less focus on his many malapropisms following 9/11.

Didn't Michael Moore make a movie about Bush's gaffes?

There's a definite double-standard with televised entertainment (which includes the media -- they exist not to inform you, but to entertain you, in-between commercials).

Why do you think Liz posted from a Fox website? That's the easiest place to find it. A quick google on it, and all I picked up were blogs and Fox.

Anyone see it in AP or Reuters or other mainstream entertainment venues?

Guess they're too fair-and-balanced to cover it, huh...

I don't go to the Fox website, and yet I have seen coverage of many of his gaffes. So, it's simply not true that they are not being covered (and seriously, every one is just not newsworthy; he's not the President and nothing he does is as newsworthy as it would be if he were).

I'm not aware of a Moore film about Bush's gaffes (unless you're thinking about Fahrenheit 9/11?), but if someone wants to make one about Biden after his now 4 months in office, they are more than welcome to!

Dan Quail was as important as Bush? They constantly quoted that guy in the media.

Anyway. I think that once the media realizes Pappa O won't bail them out, like he is their brethren in the UAW, they may actually bite him.

They got Clinton pretty good, as I recall, with that whole Monica thing. Nothing sells like a scandal, and you can bet O, being a freshman senator catapulted by the media into the role of president, a man who said his job as a community organizer helps him be a better president (Oh lord in heaven help us), and then issued his first interview as the first non-white president, the most historic interview in the last century of American history, to an ARAB network, instead of Matt Lauer, who got to wait three weeks for his turn in the seat, they'll turn on him.

They'll turn on him. The media always does. They're reptiles, and they'll eat their young when it means selling more commercial air-time.

The story appeared on Newsweek's website over the weekend, and MSNBC has a link to it; if this is what we're talking about?

Shining Light On Cheney's Hideaway

Daniel Stone
This just in from Newsweek's Eleanor Clift, a frequent purveyor of political anecdotes. She bring us an enlightening one here regarding the (quote) undisclosed location (unquote) we heard lots about in the days after Sept. 11. Here's Eleanor:
Ever wonder about that secure, undisclosed location where Dick Cheney secreted himself after the 9/11 attacks? Joe Biden reveals the bunker-like room is at the Naval Observatory in Washington, where Cheney lived for eight years and which is now home to Biden. The veep related the story to his head-table dinner mates when he filled in for President Obama at the Gridiron Club earlier this year. He said the young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment. The officer explained that when Cheney was in lock down, this was where his most trusted aides were stationed, an image that Biden conveyed in a way that suggested we shouldn’t be surprised that the policies that emerged were off the wall. Cheney has emerged as the leading critic of the Obama administration on national security, saying the president’s policies are making America less safe, and if there’s another attack, it will be Obama’s fault. This is tough stuff, but as the architect of the Bush administration’s policies on war and torture, he has a much bigger legacy to protect than the president he helped steer onto the shoals.

Oops, shouldn't have cut and pasted this; of course that got modded. Let me just insert the link. Is an article from Newsweek's website that was linked to from MSNBC mainstream enough? Apparently, the AP, Reuters, etc., did not pick it up because it occurred in a private conversation with columnist Eleanor Clift.
