The Daily Show last night had clips from all the news media reporting on the swine flu. What a riot. They're all calling it a "pandemic", then saying "Don't get freaked out", etc. All of them - CNN, Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS - all of 'em.

One of them (I forget which one) had ALL of Canada colored in RED - for 6 cases!!

I'm taking a weekend trip this Thursday to New Orleans. Maybe I'll wear a surgical mask on the plane.

I'll check that out on the Daily Show webpage, thanks. That's really pitiful, considering that the WHO and the CDC are not calling it a pandemic yet, and they would know......

I know I wasn't fully paying attention this morning but I am pretty sure I heard the WHO spokesperson calling it a pandemic.

Check out PSA's from 1976.

Vilsackhas said that it is to be called H1N1 Virusand not Swine Flu because really that is not what it is what it should be called.

And now there are possibly many many more cases in NYC.(one school had 88 kids out sick today)

1.5 billion being asked for by President Obama to fight this outbreak.

At least this spending he's asking for can be considered constitutionally legitimate.

I heard it on the radio news last night and the bloke being interviewed was saying it wasn't a pandemic and really we (not sure which country) is well placed medically to treat it. Then there was something about Mexico (I think) and finally the newsreader wound up the segment with an announcement from a female spokesperson advising people of some Australian States who'd been on a flight with people from New Zealand who came down with suspected swine flu to see the Dr if they were feeling unwell at all after being on this flight and also that people should remain at home in isolation until they get the results of the test! How contradictory was that?

I'm in North Texas, in the Dallas area. They're shutting down and sanitizing elementary schools over in Carrollton and Irving.

I havetwo kids in 2nd/3rd grade, who go to school just a few miles north of Carrollton. So, it's alreadyhit within 6miles of my house, and it hit the same grade-school levels that would impact me directly.

Supposedly.

Not sure how much is real, and how much isjusta media-induced panic to drive up the price for their advertising airspace. I guess we'll see. They do this with snow and ice panics during the winter, so I don't trust these guys too much.

Panic's good for business, see: We'll tell you how your kids could die at school today, after these messages from our sponsors.

In any case, I told the kids this morning, "Wash your hands, and don't suck your thumbs."
