I thought we could divvy (sp?) up into teams and challenge each other on our thinking. I am seeing this unfold as the following (but I am welcome to any and all ideas) the teams get to choose one poster that will be their debator and the team also chooses one modern-day commentator that really encompasses the main/core values of their party.

I am thinking for the debate we should choose some set questions. Each party gets three or something like that. And then open the thread up.

Each team chooses a modern day commentator because I thought we all could agree to commit to listening/reading the other teams commentator for a period of two weeks. Or three really good columns that the team selects if the commentator is not someone you can listen/read regularly. And we would do this before debate night.

We might need a moderator for the debate/discussion to keep everyone on track and answering what was asked. If we do, my vote is for NearDC - I think she would do the job with honor.

What say you? Teams - I was thinking red, blue and yellow (maybe green for amusement factor - just teasing y'all about the greenies - well, kind of )??

LizziePooh, forgive me for being dense (it's been a long day)but I'm not sure I understand your proposal.

We choose a commentator and then debate that commentator's statements? How would the teams coordinate their views? Would we have to have teams, or could we comment individually? Would we structure the dialogue like a debate (with opening statements and rebuttals, etc)?

I ask because thingsare a bit anarchic here at times....

You are not dense - I was not clear. Obviously, I am not going to be the debator for the red team. Ha! Ha!

--------------------

Step One: Form teams

Step Two: Teams decides what modern day commentator best captures their ideas. For example - I would nominate Dennis Prager but others on the conservative team would weigh in with their recommendation and we would decide on one.

Step Three: We announce each team's modern day commentator and we all agree to give the other team's person a listen to for awhile. I think that will help us crystalize what we believe and will help us also understand where the other side is coming from.

Step Four: Teams meet to pick their few debate questions -something that really captures the essence of their political values.

Step Five: Announce the debate questions - In the debate, each team will answer all questions (so their own and the other teams questions)

Step Six: Teams stragetize and choose their debator.

Step Seven: Fight Night!!! We have the choosen debators of each team debate the questions. Have some set rules for the debate that will be determined prior to the debate.

Step Eight: Open up the thread for townhall type questions but we all get to ask and answer.

--------

Maybe the teams could each have a group made for their internal discussions and we all would be on our honor not to peek.

I don't think LizziePooh intended to limit the debate to two teams.

Do you want to captain the yellow team (or choose your own color)?

What color are independents? Are they really pink or are you making a funny and I did not get it? Trust me, would not be the first time something went over my head!!! LOL! And CC's right (well, actually left!), I did not see this limited to just two parties.

Due to the lack of posts, maybe this was a bit too ambition. I am open to any of your guys' ideas or suggestions.

Since we do a lot of informal/unstructured jabbering at each other, I thought it might be a good idea to put some purpose behind itto really understand what it is that truly separate us all. Sometimes we get caught up in specifics or caught up in the "you guys do this" and "Oh yeah, well you guys did that" mentality that we do not see the actual value behind the positions that we hold.

I thought maybe if we had a more formalized debate we could be more clear on our positions and why that position is the right one. Since we areall correct - or so we all think so!

Ditto, in the name of limted government, free-market liberalism, and individual rights, I would be more than proud to humbly lead should you feel I am qualified to captain the PINK team.

I don't know what color independents are:P. I just think pink stands out more and it's a nice color.
