Because the Great wall did such a great job of keeping the mongolians out. I think it actually backfired on China didn't it?
I don't know about that. Mongolia was annexed by one of the dynasties of China around 1600. Besides, the wall was built to keep invaders out, not to curb an immigration problem. I'd like to see some warring faction try to compromise our border if we seal it and truly intend to defend it.

How can we put a dent in the illegal immigrant problem if all these law enforcement agencies have their hands tied behind their backs?

If you want to curb illegal immigration, fine the employers who give them jobs . If they can't get work in the U.S., they won't come.

But the reality is many employers (including one I was formerly with, a landscaping company) actively and knowingly seek out illegal immigrants because they represent cheap, easily manipulated labor.

We do not needs fences, walls, or armed security constantly patrolling thousands of miles.

The economic disparity along the U.S. Mexico border is the largest of any national border in the world.

1. Yeah, that only took about 1400 years. You think the US can wait that one out? I think at best they US only has MAYBE 50 good years left as a super power.

2. Walls simply don't work. You know china had to man over a million men on the wall to make it affective.

3. Then we can change our name to New North Korea. Isolationism (is that a word?) has historically, worked about as well as building walls has.

I agree. When caught , employers are fined. But there are too many flaws in the system. If an employer requests a social security number, you'll get an active social security number. All the 'Verify ID' procedure gives you is that it is an active & valid social security number. Then, months later you get a notice from SSA that there is a discrepancy with the number matching the name. That happened to me twice and both times we had to fire them.

It isn't already?

In fact all of the Billboards in my area are in Spanish. Funny I thought this was an English speaking country. Mexico has annexed California, we just haven't been told yet.

You can't honestly believe that, can you? We won't take over Mexico, and they can't take us, so how would that happen?

(a) I don't believe we have an official national language.

(b) If you want to be technical, California was previously part of Mexico and it had Mexicans living there before anyone from the United States.

How many more Americans have to be killed by illegal immigrants? Be it by gun violence associated with drug activity, vehicular accident, or negligence of some other type. I want a cold hard number, not some excuse why you believe the situation should be allowed to continue as is or that it is too hard to rectify the situation with the vast nymber that are here now already. A cold hard number of dead American so that when we reach that number of dead Americans we can finally enforce the laws on the books with no exceptions and exercise our sovereignty as a nation to protect our borders from being breached.

Illegal is illegal, what is so hard to understand with the definition? We have a process for legal immigration. Those who choose to ignore our process or our laws of immigation have no legal right to be here no matter what excuse you want to purpose. If we live in a lawful society, lets inforce ALL the laws please.

By implication, should we deport all Americans who kill? Because certainly Americans are responsible for the vast majority of murders/manslaughters in this country (and are also responsible for the incredible demand for illegal drugs that creates the market).

There may be good reasons for enforcing immigration laws, but preventing American deaths does not seem to be a primary one (I don't at all mean that to minimize deaths; just that controlling immigration is not at all the most effective way to control those crimes).
